~Hold On Girl - Part 4~

All Kate thought about for the next two days was Micky. They way they had talked, the way he had looked at her, the way he made her feel. No one had made her feel that way in a long time. She could still smell his cologne, still feel his warm hands on her face, still feel his lips.

She drove to his house quickly before she had a chance to change her mind and with her stomach tied in knots; she walked to the door and rang the bell. "Hi." She gave a soft smile when he opened the door. He was on wearing a pair of tight black jeans and she instantly felt her throat go dry. "Can I come in?"

"Sure." He held the door open. "I'm glad to see you."

She walked into the living room and sat down on the couch. "It wasn't fair of me to run out on you the other night. You deserve an explanation."

"You don't owe me anything." He sat down next to her.

"I want to tell you."

"Then I want to listen." He smiled.

"We met at a charity function shortly after my first book was published. His band was playing and afterwards we literally ran into each other at the buffet table. There was an instant chemistry between us." She stood and paced across the room. "Fame was new to me and I was still adjusting to everything that comes with it. He helped and protected me from it and showed me how good it could be. I fell under the spell of this entirely new way of life. I fell under his spell." She watched the fire crackle. "But things were so good. The band was soaring up the charts and I was writing better than I ever had. Then it all started to fall apart."

"What happened?" He wanted to go to her and hold her, comfort her, but he held back wanting to give her the space she that needed.

"He started to party more and more and using more drugs that just for recreational purposes. I didn't pay much attention at first. I figured it was just something all musicians go through."

"No comment." Micky chuckled a little.

"It got worse and we were fighting all the time. But I loved him so much. We even talked about getting married." She choked back the tears. "I flew to New York to surprise him while they were on tour. It turned out to be a surprise for both of us. I walked in on him in bed with someone else. To make things worse, the tabloids got wind of what had happened and they had a field day." She turned around and looked at him. "I can't go through all that again and now you know why."

Micky stood and went to her drawing her into his arms. "Why did you tell me all of this?"

She stiffened in his arms and then slowly melted against his chest. "Because I haven't been able to stop thinking about you since I left here the other night."

He kissed the top of her head. "That is a good thing."

"No, its not." She pulled away. "I don't want to feel anything for you, but I do."

"Come here." He took her hand and led her back to the couch. "I really like you and I want to be with you. I've been through the musician drug thing, I never go to New York and I try to stay out of the tabloids." He saw her smile. "Give me a chance, give us a chance. We'll take it as slow as you want, no pressure."

She leaned towards him cautiously and brushed her lips against his. "I would like that but no promises."

He smiled and brought her into his arms. "No promises…for now."
