~Sweet Young Thing - Part 4~

Mike unwrapped himself from Renee’s arms and rubbed his face with his hands. “I didn’t hurt you, did I? I mean I didn’t know you were a virgin. I’m…”

“If you’re about to apologize…don’t.” She sat up and put her hand on his back.

“No, I really should apologize.” He looked over at her. “I took advantage of you, Ray.”

“No, Michael, you didn’t take advantage of me. I have wanted this to happen since I was 14 years old.” She smiled. “I have always wanted you to be my first.”

He cupped her face and kissed her gently. “Are you sure I didn’t hurt you?”

“I’m sure.” She blushed, “So sure, I’d like to try it again.”

He laughed and kissed her again. “I’m sure that could be arranged.”

After that day, Mike and Renee became lovers and Renee fell more in love with him than she already had been. She knew that he wasn’t ready to tell her how he felt about her so she would wait patiently for the day when he would say those three little words that she wanted to hear most.

She also found an apartment close to the pad and then looked all over town for just the right furniture and accessories to fill it. She wanted it to be more than just an apartment; she wanted it to be a home. A home where someday she hoped her and Mike would live as man and wife until it was time to move to a bigger place when their first child came along.

----------------------------------------

Mike sat on the sand watching his roommates play volleyball. Actually, he wasn’t really watching, he was more in a daze thinking about Renee and how he felt about her. The truth was he didn’t know exactly how he felt about her, he just knew his feelings were strong and were growing stronger every day. He missed her terribly when they weren’t together and when they were, he couldn’t get enough of her.

He decided to go to her apartment and surprise her when she came home from meeting with her publisher. He ran back in the pad and dressed then grabbed the car keys and drove over. He let himself in with the key she had made for him and sat down on the couch. He noticed her journal sitting on the coffee table and saw his name written on the top of the page with a heart around it. He couldn’t help but smile.

He knew he shouldn’t read it because it was something private but he couldn’t help himself. And what he read made his stomach turn and his heart cold.

“Dear diary…Things are moving along with Michael just fine. In fact, my plan seems to be working out better than I thought. I know he isn’t ready to tell me he loves me yet, but he will soon, I just know it. As for marriage, that won’t be far behind. I love him so much. We will be so happy together. I hope he wants children soon. I can’t wait to have his child. A boy named Michael, with his hair, eyes and sweet voice.”

Mike had just set the journal back on the table when Renee walked in. “Michael!” She exclaimed happily. “What are you doing here?”

“I wanted to surprise you.” He said angrily. “But it looks like I’m the one in for a surprise.” He slammed the journal closed. “You planned all this, didn’t you?”

“Michael, it isn’t what you think.” She saw the journal and knew he had read it. “Please, let me explain.”

“Oh, I’d love to hear your explanation!” He stood, his fists balled at his sides. “Please, tell me how you came here to trick me into falling in love with you. And then afterwards there would be marriage and kids, too!”

“Michael, please.” Tears streamed down her face. “I love you.”

“I’m sure you do, as long as you get what you want.” He stormed. “Did you ever stop and think about how I might feel about this? I don’t like to be made a fool of.”

“I wasn’t trying to make a fool out of you!” She yelled back. “In fact, I’m the one who feels like a complete idiot!”

“What?!” He crossed his arms.

“Here I was all this time pouring out my love for you. The love I’ve had in my heart since I was 13 years old and I never even realized that you didn’t give a damn about me.” She wiped haphazardly at the hot tears on her cheeks.

“That’s not true, Ray.” His voice was suddenly calm.

“Oh, isn’t it?” She continued. “In the month we have been together, when have you once done anything to give me even the slightest hint that you care about me besides what we do in the bedroom? I’m the one who has been bending over backward trying to make you fall in love with me. I thought I couldn’t live without you but now I realize I can’t live like this. I’m the fool, Michael, not you.” She walked to the door and opened it. “I never want to see you again. Get out!!”

“Ray…” His eyes pleaded with her.

“I said get out!” She left the door open and went to her bedroom slamming that door behind her hard enough to make the walls shake.
