“Engaged?” Micky took one solid step backwards.
“Yes.” Annabelle looked down at the ground giving it much more attention than it deserved. “I’m sorry, I should have told you sooner.”
“Yes, you should have!” He could feel the anger and the jealousy building inside of him.
“There’s more.” She took a deep breath. “I work for my father’s company. My finance is on the board.”
“Do you love him?” He asked softly.
“What kind of question is that?” She asked angrily.
“I want to know if you love him.” He took her by the shoulders. “I felt something when you were kissing me.”
“You kissed me!” She exclaimed.
“And you kissed back!” He retorted. “Do you love him?”
“It doesn’t matter if I love him or not.” She explained. “The merger of our two families is important to my father. This has been arranged for a long time.”
"So you are willing to marry someone that you don’t love? That’s insane.” He threw up his hands in frustration.
“No, its business.” She stated simply.
“Marriage should be about love and passion, not some cold business deal where you sign on the dotted line.” Cupping her face gently, he crushed his lips down upon hers, his fingers tangling in her hair. He felt her melt against him. “Could you really go the rest of your life without that?” He whispered.
“I don’t have a choice.” She pulled way.
“There’s always a choice, Annabelle.” He stroked her cheek with this back of his hand and then turned and walked home.
