~Daddy's Song - Part 3~

While Madison stood at the sink washing the dishes from the night before, Micky barreled into the kitchen with Sarah in his arms and Mac trailing closing behind. "Hey, doll. We're going to the beach." He said quickly skimming a kiss across her lips.

"What's the big hurry?" She laughed just as the doorbell rang.

"That." He smiled. "Love you."

She wearily watched them leave through the back door and then went to open the front door. "Hi." She said relieved to Mike who was standing on the other side. "What are you doing here?"

"Thought you might want to talk." He drawled following her into the kitchen.

"Do Peter and Davy know about this too?" She asked a little more than annoyed.

"Of course they do." He chuckled. "You are married to a blabbermouth."

"Don't I know it." She snorted then laughed. "Coffee?"

"Please." He sat down at the kitchen table while she poured two cups and then sat down across from him. "Micky figured you needed someone to talk to who would understand at least part of what you're feeling."

"Mike, I've got so many emotions running through me I don't even know where to begin." She replied.

"Pissed off, frightened, sad and maybe just a tiny bit hopeful all at the same time, right?" He smiled understandingly at her.

"You do understand." She sighed in relief. "We've never really talked about this. How old were you went your father left?"

Mike looked down at the table. She was right in that, he never talked about his father to anyone, except Samantha. He had told her the very night she told him she was pregnant with Robbie, Jr. The others knew the basics that his father had left and he lived with his mom until moving to California, but only Samantha knew everything.

He took a deep breath and looked over at Madison. "Right before my sixth birthday, I think. Sometimes it seems like it was two lifetimes ago and other times it feels like it was yesterday."

"Did he ever try to come back in your life?" She asked cautiously knowing how hard it must be for him to open up.

"He mailed me a couple of times when I was growing up, told me how sorry he was, but he never asked to see me and he never gave a return address." There was some sadness in his eyes but also acceptance.

"What would you do if he wanted to see you now?"

"You mean what would I do if I was you?" He answered.

"Yeah." She smiled knowing she had been caught.

"I don’t know. And I can't tell you what to do either." He reached across the table and gently squeezed her hand. "You have questions and he has the answers, or at least some of them. You have to decide if you want to hear them." He smiled. "And you should know that no matter what you do, the rest of us support you and are here for you."

"That's one thing I have no doubts about." She squeezed his hand in return. "Thank you, Michael."

He stood, walked around the table and pulled her up and into his arms. "You're welcome, darlin'."

Madison was sitting in their bedroom on the window seat when Micky walked in. She was staring out the window, her knees drawn up to her chest, her arms wrapped around them. She looked like she was in a completely other world and he hoped she was finding the answers she needed.

He cleared his throat. "Hey, doll."

She looked over at him with her head resting on her knees. "Hi. How was the beach?"

"We brought most of it home with us." He laughed walked over and sitting down with her. "You're not mad, are you?" He asked more seriously.

"No." She smiled taking his hands in her own. "You're a good man, Micky Dolenz." She rose and lightly kissed him. "I love you."

"I love you too." He smiled and watched her slip into a pair of shoes. "Where ya going?"

"There's something I need to do." She sighed almost in relief. "I'll be back later."

Madison took the crumpled piece of paper out of her pocket and checked the address again. She took a deep breath, got out of the car and walked up to the front door. She hesitated and then knocked. What seemed like a lifetime went by before the door opened and Bill Sage was standing on the other side. His eyes grew wide and then he smiled at the sight of his daughter. "I'm so glad you're here." He held the door opened and she walked inside.
