The guilt both Peter and Samantha were feeling was almost unbearable, but the love they shared couldn't be denied. Samantha broke down in tears with every box she packed because she didn't want to move to Texas with Mike. She didn't want to leave Peter but she knew there was no way to avoid it unless she told Mike what was happening, and then she feared the worst. Too many people would be hurt if their affair became public. Not only Mike and Cora, but also her children and the rest of the band.
Peter knew it was only a matter of time before his marriage to Cora would end. It wasn't only his love for Samantha or their affair, in fact that had really nothing to do with it. He and Cora had fallen out of love long before it started but neither of them wanted to be the first to say so. It hurt him to know that the woman who had done so much to change his life was now like a stranger. They lived in the same house and put up a good public appearance but they weren't in love and hadn't been for a long time.

They lay together one afternoon entwined in each other's arms. "I can't believe you're leaving in less than a week." Peter twisted her hair around his fingers. "Do you love him?"
Samantha thought for a moment, choosing her words carefully. "Not the way I once did, but yes, I love him. But I'm in love with you." She looked up at him. "What are we going to do?"
"I don't know, baby." He kissed her forehead. "I just don't know."

That Saturday night, Micky and Madison hosted a going away party for Mike and Samantha. They were sitting on the couch when Mike leaned over and whispered something in her ear. She stood up and snapped her head around to look at him. "I can't take this anymore!" She yelled throwing her arms up in the air.
Everyone else in the room stopped and looked over at her.
"Samantha, let's not do this here." Mike said in a low calm voice. "I know you don't want to move, but we are. You're just going to have to get used to the idea. Once we get there I know you're going to love it."
"I'm not going to love it." She answered, lowering her tone. "It's not just the fact that you're taking me half way across the country. Or that we're moving away from our family." She looked around at Micky, Madison, Peter, Cora, Davy and Diana. "Or that our kids aren't going to grow up seeing them practically every other day."
"Then what is it?" Mike demanded.
She took a deep breath and a quick glance at Peter. "Mike, I'm in love with someone else. I've been having an affair." Tears rolled down her cheeks. "I'm so sorry, I never meant to do this to you."
Gasps filled the room as Mike's face dropped in shock and pain. "Who?" He asked softly and when she didn't answer right away, he bellowed. "Tell me who, damn it!"
"Me." Peter stepped forward to stand next to Samantha. "It's me."
