After her mother died, she was befriended by Victor Petrenko, future Olympic Champion in '92. He introduced her to his coach, the famed Galina Zmievskaya. Galina took Oksana into her family, and, seeing that she was very gifted, turned her into an Olympic Champion after intensive training. Oksana and Galina worked from 7.30am to 8.00pm, every day. (Need I say impressive.) The worked paid off though, she went to Lillehammer, and stood on top of the podium, with Nancy Kerrigan and Lu Chen. She was only sixteen
After Olympics Oksana moved to the United States. In October of 1994 she turned professional. She skates with other Olympic Champions in many tours around the United States and competes in many different competitions. Oksana has written two books, ‘Oksana, My Own Story’ and ‘Secrets of Skating’, appeared in many magazines and TV Shows.
