December 9, 1999, 8:00PM (ET)— President Whitehead's Eulogy at the Worcester, MA Memorial Service

December 9, 1999, 3:00PM (ET)— Fire Fighter Timothy P. Jackson, of IAFF Local 1009-Worcester, Massachusetts, will be waked on Friday, December 10, 1999, from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m., at the Norgren-Carrigan Funeral Home, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester, Massachusetts 01605, (508) 852-2161.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, December 11, 1999, at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Rosary Church on Fales Street, Worcester, Massachusetts 01605, (508) 853-1640. Burial to follow at the Hopedale Village Cemetary, Hopedale, Massachusetts.

December 8, 1999, 8:00PM (ET)— Coverage of Thursday's Memorial Service will be available live on the Internet. Visit the NECN (New England Cable News) or 7 News for live coverage starting at 8:30 AM (ET). The Procession will begin at 9:30AM (ET) and Memorial Service at 11:00 AM (ET). December 6, 1999, 7:00AM (ET)— It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we report the deaths of six of our members in Worcester, Massachusetts, IAFF Local 1009. Lieutenant Thomas E. Spencer, Fire Fighter Timothy P. Jackson, Fire Fighter James F. Lyons, Fire Fighter Joseph T. McGuirk, Fire Fighter Paul A. Brotherton, and Fire Fighter Jeremiah M. Lucey were killed while fighting a fire on Friday, December 3, 1999.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for Thursday, December 9, 1999, at 11:00 a.m. at the Worcester Centrum on Worcester Center Boulevard in downtown Worcester. All fire fighters and union representatives are urged to attend the Memorial Service. Any affiliates wishing to send floral arrangements should send them to the Worcester Centrum.

The following hotels are reserving rooms at discounted rates for fire fighters: In Worcester -- Beechwood Hotel ; Crown Plaza; Hampton Inn ; and Regency Suites . In Auburn/Metro West/Marlboro (all within a 10-20 minute drive) – Ramada Inn ; Comfort Inn ; Courtyard ; Days Inn; Marriott. Flights to Worcester connect through Philadelphia. Airports in Boston and Hartford are one hour from Worcester.

December 5, 1999, 8:00PM (ET)— The memorial service for the six fallen fire fighters from Worcester, Local 1009 will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, December 9 at the Worcester Centrum. Further details on hotels, staging areas and procession will be posted on Monday and Tuesday.

December 4, 1999, 10:45PM (ET)— The Worcester Fire Dept, IAFF Local 1009 has just released the names of the missing fire fighters, they are:

Lt. Thomas E. Spencer, Age 42, Ladder 2

Fire Fighter Timothy P. Jackson, Age 51, Ladder 2

Fire Fighter James F. Lyons, Age 34, Engine 3

Fire Fighter Joseph T. McGuirk, Age 38, Engine 3

Fire Fighter Paul A. Brotherton, Age 41, Rescue 1

Fire Fighter Jeremiah M. Lucey, Age 38, Rescue 1

The recovery process is still on-going and the fire fighters have not been found at this time. We will post information as it becomes available.

December 4, 1999, 8:30PM (ET)— Representatives from the IAFF are present in Worcester and no details are available at this time, as details become available we will post information to the web site.

December 4, 1999, 8:15AM (ET)— It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we have to report to you the presumed deaths of six of our members in Worcester, Massachusetts, IAFF Local 1009.

They were involved in a five-alarm fire at an abandoned cold-storage warehouse. Two of the fire fighters became disorientated during an interior search for individuals reported to be living in the warehouse. They radioed a mayday and an organized crew of four fire fighters initiated a search.

At this hour the fire emergency still continues. All six are missing and presumed dead.

As soon as we have more information regarding the incident and arrangements, we will let you know.
