This book is really cool, and it draws you in right away, with Alanna's daring spirit and courage. The series has four parts to it, but this is just the first book.

It's set in a kind of "fantasy" world, and it's realistic with thoughts & feelings, but it also has a sense of surrealness that draws you in.
