Homeless suffer from Elgin!
By Richard Faykosh

It's been a long time for Elgin's Homeless. For years they have been sidelined by the city of Elgin as Well as the public. With Bad press from the Courier News as well as from the police Dept. For years Elgin was told that they have no homeless problem, to let it grow with every year. Public Action To Deliver Shelter was formed to help but they were spinning their wheels. Six years ago they were using the basement of the Salvation Army. And was paying for the space. For Councilman Steward (Housing Authority) Put the screws to it. And the homeless were back on the streets. The churches opened their door to help.

P.A.D.S then tried to buy property off of Rt.20 by Rt. 25. A warehouse that was vacant, But the courier news printed so much bad things that the residents said no. Then P.A.D.S. tried to buy the old moose lodge on Rt.31 by Highland. And the Courier News said it was a bad area because people coming into town to the Casino would see them and it would make the city look bad. Then PADS tried to buy an old wheelhouse on Rt31 near Judson College. And once again there was bad press and bad things said. So now there is land open across The Mental Health Center and it looks good for the building. Since all this started their have been 3 to 4 homeless deaths maybe more that are not known. While Aurora has broke ground on there homeless center and will be the city of the year.

And the homeless in Elgin suffer and endure the pain that this City will give. Not care and hope and progress. The people in jail and prison are treated better. That is one of the ways a homeless person can get back on their feet. By doing a crime and then going through the system to receive the helpful programs to benefit them. Education programs are offered to the prisoners as well as grant money to start their own business. And what help does a homeless person get. Ok! Now you know. Its been said that homeless people are lazy, when they go to these spot labor places and work for pennies upon the dollar and still end up living on the street because of high rental cost. So where is the help for the homeless? There is not any. Because The City and the local news have done nothing to assist there very own homeless and has let it grow into a sore that will take a long time to heal. When the NewsPaper says by doing nothing for the homeless will chase the homeless away. Proved to be a false thing. Because it brought more homelessness to this city, And with every company that closes its doors or cuts back its workload the more homeless people are born. It's the city and its residents that have brought this upon themselves.

So in closing I would like to thank all those people that have taken my ideas as theirs and have started to do something with them. Thank you! You have proven to me that I was right! All along..

STORY ABOUT Doris, One OF OUR HOMELESS
By Richard Faykosh

Doris at one time was so happy and with no thoughts of ever being homeless.
She had just got married and her new husband had a great job. One that insured that she would and could be a live at home mother. But after time that all changed. It seemed almost like over night, she could see it coming but had no real power to stop it. At first her husdand would come home late tired and angry at times. Then it got to the point that he would not get home until late after he was drinking. And the excuses started. Business gathering, A meeting at a club, then the excuses quit and he would come home more and more angery. She would try and try again to get some understanding. That would result in more anger and tossing things, cussing. She even asked her husband if he would like her to go to work to help out. But he would only get more and more angry.

Continued next month.

POEMS OF THE STREET
POEM # ONE
IT WILL

BY R. J. 8/29/02

The busy hustle,
The day begins,
Yet for some,
It will never end.

The day started busy,
The progress is insane,
Yet for some,
It will stay the same.

The day started slow,
And progressed in time,
Yet for some,
It will not be.

The day started in labor,
Yet moves into a rush,
Then its mellow,
Back to a push.

Each day is different,
Never dealt out the same,
Yet for some,
It will.

POEM # TWO
TIS THE
by R.J. 8/14/02

'Tis the dusk of my existence,
The rambling of my life,
To look back is Golden,
Forward in jest.

'Tis the dusk of my existence,
The growing of my life ,
To look back in honor,
Forward in a smile.

'Tis the dusk of my existence,
The learning of my life,
To look back in pleasure,
Forward in knowing.

'Tis the dusk of my existence,
The growing of this soul ,
To look back in reflection,
Forward in youth.

I've past old…
