Let's get back to normal?
By Richard Faykosh
Gee!

Let's look at this a little!

For a homeless person, things have not changed much. They still sleep on the street, they still work at temporary labor places, they still can not make enough money to get there lives right.

They would have liked to go to NY and help in what ever needed to get done. But they are still with out resources to get themselves up and going.
YES!

Our area homeless are contrived by many groups of people. Most now seem to be Spanish or Mex.-American. It's true that some of these homeless people are released from either Elgin Mental Health Center, OR, Kane County Jail. Then there is those that have become homeless because of poor money planning, or need a better education, perhaps just a little loan and counseling could help them get back on there feet.

But when jobs dry up, these people are the ones that get hurt first. They are the ones that suffer the most. Then there are those that were close to becoming homeless before all of this started. That is now new on the streets of homelessness.

Yet,

the city of Elgin refuses to take the responsibility of the past 35 years of just turning there head and saying, WE DO NOT HAVE A HOMELESS PROBLEM, (or) Ignore them and they will go somewhere else, (or) Give them a bus ticket to send them elsewhere to let someone else deal with it. But the truth of the matter is the city and its people are afraid to do something to help the homeless.

If they would have done so years ago they would not have the problems they now have. As my father once said." You make your bed and then you sleep in it". But the homeless have no bed to sleep in. Those of you that think that you will never be homeless!

Watch out!

It can happen to you, It costs a homeless person more money to live on the street then it does for you to live in your house. Next Month, we will give you numbers to crunch, to see if you make enough to be homeless. Then there will be those that would be able to do well even after the numbers are crunched. So we will see you next month on this.

NEW YORK HOMELESS AT WORK TOO!
By Richard Faykosh
There are a lot of people working hard in New York trying to clear the rubble away. The New York homeless are also doing their part.

Working right next to those fireman and policemen. They may not be up there in the digging. Because this has to be done very carefully by those trained in evidence retrieval. So wherever they are needed they are placed.

They may be running water or gloves to those that need them. If there is a need to move some of the bigger obstacles they help. The homeless are they're helping also. They have no where to go. They are use to the harsh weather conditions and such. And yes we all have gotten a little bit closer to each other. Sad that this will not solve the problems of the homeless..

BUT THERE IS STILL THINGS THAT NEED TO BE DONE.
By Richard Faykosh
But there are still things that need to be done to really make things better. I do hope things get better, but fear that this will bring upon us more homeless people on the street that already has a lot. I wonder how they will react to this change, because it's not going to be easy. A few at a time is an easier to deal with, but when there becomes a mass amount it will be a lot harder.

There is a lot of stress and shock to deal with. The shock of the tragedy in New York, Then dealing with the tragedy of becoming homeless is a lot to deal with. This could become a great national problem. Yet homeless people are treated as if they have leprosy or even worse. We need to set up programs for these persons that would really work. Some will need more help then others. Yet some will not need much.

We need to look and see how they can really be helped. If Elgin does not want to get extra grant money that would be open to them, then perhaps Carpentersville, Dundee, or another city would like to get the grants. It would bring funding to that city that could benefit them. Any of these cities could hold a program in this way. It would open up jobs to the city as well as new business.
A shelter with a complete center of help, like housing, job placement, counseling, education, courses like business, that the city could give a grant too so homeless persons could start there own business's with counseling and guidance to improve their success. Now that would be great! The city would be known as one that has learned to solve problems.

NEW STORY ABOUT ONE OF OUR HOMELESS NEXT MONTH

POEMS OF THE STREET
POEM # ONE
A CRY FOR HELP!

BY R. J. 10/14/90

A CRY FOR HELP,
As the tear runs down the collar,
A CRY FOR HELP,
As the fear begins to holler,
A CRY FOR HELP,
As the Echo, echo, echo,
of Sound thunders,
A CRY FOR HELP,
As for some will only wonder,
A CRY FOR HELP,
As the sound is muffled,
A CRY FOR HELP,
As I walk past the windows,
A CRY FOR HELP,
I'm just not that kind of fellow,
A CRY FOR HELP,
As the gentle hand reaches to heather,
A CRY FOR HELP,
As softly to touch like a feather,
A CRY FOR HELP,
A CRY FOR HELP,
A CRY FOR HELP,
IT'S GONE FOREVER ….

POEM # TWO
THE STEPS OF
by R.J.

The steps of loosing,
The feeling of illusion
Often I've put in mind of her
And often I've spoken to her.
NOW!
The hope for love has past and my life is now HOLLOW.
For the flame has gone out.
Hope has now been replaced,
Cold dark depression.
My new friend.
I hope that it would not be
NOW!
Theirs nothing to see.
I let go and be.
There is no feelings,
There is nothing,
Even empty is a feeling.
Yet!
Sadness is reverse of happy.
Hate is reverse of love.
Hope is reverse of need.
It's over can't you see.
There is none of the above for me.
THE IRON DOOR IS CLOSED
I'll not hate
I'll not love
I'll not…..
