Chapter 13

Chapter 13--Jessica

"Jessica?"

Jessica spun around and found herself face to face with a girl with long black hair and dar brown eyes. "Jackie?"

The girl nodded. "Yup. At your service."

Next to her was a girl with light brown hair, which looked like it was tinted a bit green, and hazel eyes, and a boy with light brown hair and blue eyes.

"This is Mike and Heather. They decided to come with me to pick you up."

"Hi." Jessica didn't really know what else to say.

Mike spoke up, his voice slightly scratchy. "Okay, my parents are out of town, so you'll stay with me. I found out they're going to be gone for two weeks. They arranged for someone to check up on me and my sister sometimes, but other than that, we'll be on our own."

"After that, you can stay with me. I'll tell my parents you're a penpal and you can stay for two weeks. Also, Laura and Jackie can have you stay with them for a while too." Hather informed her.

Jessica smiled. 'These people are really nice' "Thnak you very much. I...miss my family, but everything that was happening was too much. We emailed ach other from the plane. They're pretty upset."

"Did you tell them where you were going?" Mike asked.

"Of course not. I just said, basically, I'll keep in touch and miss them." she told him.

"Well, I have my liscense, so I'll be driving us." Mike told her."

"You have your liscense?" She was surprised, seeing how he was in 9th grade.

"Yeah, I turned 15 a while back, and here, you just have to have your permit for 6 months before you can drive."

***AUTHOR'S NOTE--I'm still not sure about this. I hope it's true in Florida though. Then I'll have 2 years and 2 months b4 I can drive!***

"Cool."

Jackie spoke up. "C'mon, lets go. Airports suck."

They got Jessica's bags, and walked into the parking lot. A cool breeze tossed the girls' hair around. Jessica pulled out a blue scrunchie and fastened it around her hair.

They walked to a black jeep and Mike and Jessica hopped into the front. They talked the whole hours' drive to Mike's house. They were greeted at the door by a tall girl, with brown hair and blue eyes, who looked like she was in 5th or 6th grade.

"That's my sister." Mike whispered in her ear. "Don't let her fool you. She looks innocent, but she's a witch. But she won't squeal on you."

"Hey Mike, Jackie, Heather, oh......Jessica, hi. I'm a big fan or your's. I have all your albums, and posters of you and your brothers all around my room. I'm Dayna and......." she talked a mile a minute, and Jessica smiled politely through it all. After 20 minutes, Jackie had enough.

"You know, lets go to Laura's house. I think John is there." Jackie hurridly said.

"Good idea." Heather picked up Jessica's bags, put them in the guest room, and the four older teens hurried outside.

"Can I come?"

Jessica turned around and saw the disappointed look on the younger girl's face.

"No." Mike said harshly. "Do I EVER let you come with us?!"

"No" she said softly.

"Okay then, don't ask again."

Jessica saw the tears in Dayna's eyes. She turned around to go back in the house. Dayna reminded her of Avery. "Hey, Dayna." Dayna turned around.

"Maybe some other time, okay?"

Dayna smiled. "Okay."

They got in the jeep again, only this time Jackie got shotgun.

"Your sister isn't that bad. She seems pretty nice." Jessica said.

"Wait till you get to know her." Jackie informed her. Mike and Heather nodded in agreement.

But Jessica knew that all sisters and brothers did that. Even she and Avery, Taylor, Isaac. They said that the others were horrible, but in reality, they were really nice people.

Thinking of her family, she leaned her head against the window. It was open slightly.

"The weather is beautiful tonight. This is the one time of the year that it's nice. It's usually humid and hot." Jackie said, to no one in particular.

Heather leaned forward in her seat and flipped on the radio.

"WZTA, Zeta, South Florida's REAl rock station." an announcer said. Ozzy's Perry Mason came on, and Jackie started head banging and Mike started singing along.

"Heather, why's your hair look green?" Jessica asked. Then she covered her mouth. She didn't know if it was that way naturally or dyed. "Sorry, I just thought....."

"No biggie. I dyed it green before, and I tryed to get it out, but it stayed. I had it bleached 3 times, and dyed back to my normal brown, but you can still see it."

"Our friend, Joey, bleached his, THEN dyed it green, and his came out." Mike said.

"The administrators told us to get it out of our hair or we were suspended." Heather started laughing. "At first, I just washed it like normal, and it came out a VERY LITTLE bit, and I told them I tried to get it out, and they believed me. I didn't get in trouble."

Jessica laughed. "I wish I went to regular school. Home school is sooooo boring."

"You can do whatever you want now."

"I can't go to school." she reminded them.

"Correction: you don't HAVE to go to school." Mike said, grinning.

"I just want to see what it's like, for one day."

"Okay, I'll just say you're my cousin, and they'll let you come to all my classes, for one day." Jackie told her, as if she did it every day.

Jessica's eyes sparkled. "Cool. This is gonna be awesome. But what if people recognize me?"

"Don't worry. We have connections. We'll make sure NO ONE tells." Jessica wasn't sure if she liked his tone of voice. She noticed the look the three shared.

'Maybe coming here wasn't such a good idea.' she thought.
