It was November 23rd, 1997. A Sunday night. I was finishing packing my bags cuz I was leaving for Florida the next day. I was listening 2 Hanson's Snowed In I was humming along to Everybody Knows the Claus when my friend Megan called. She was practically speechless (hehe) when I answered the phone. The first sentence out of her mouth was, "Lauren!! Turn...on...Y98!!!" (a local radio station)
I did so and it was Rick Dee's Top 40 Countdown. I was just getting ready 2 ask her why when all of the sudden I heard Rick Dee say, "Welcome back to the Top 40 Countdown. I'm her w/my co-host Hanson!!!" I was really excited and began recording the show on my cassette tape. Magen told me that they gave out a # U could call 2 talk 2 Hanson but she only heard the 1-800 part. Well, Rick Dee's is in California and it's on for 4 hrs!!!! So I got off the phone w/Megan cuz my mom had 2 use the phone. I listened 2 the whole show, but they NEVER gave out the #. I was getting really bored at midnight cuz I wanted 2 call really bad but I was getting tired. I was about to got to sleep when they actually gave the # out. I eagerly called only 2 find it busy. I called again l8er and it was STILL busy. It was almost 1AM my time when I decided that I would call 4 the last time. I dialed the # anticipating a busy signal. It rang!!!!! I sat up straight and groped my mind for questions I could ask Hanson. I had never though of that (of course). I was still thinking whe Rick answered the phone. The conversation went sumthing like this:
RD:Hi! Do you have a question for Hanson??
ME:Uh...yeah..um....What is...uh..your fav. album out of Boomerang, MMMBOP, Middle of Nowhere, and Snowed In??
T:Um. If we chose it would be like being disloyal to another album.
Z: Yeah, the other albums might get mad!
(I was laughing. But managed to say.)
ME: Oh. OK.
I: Well, what Tay and Zac are trying to say is that each album is different and we had fun making all of them. Because of the fact that they are different we can't decide.
ME: That's cool.
RD: Now, why do you like Hanson?
(I don't remember exactly what I said, but I know I was bbaling on about how good they are and being so young and talented etc.)
Z: Thank you man. You love me, you REALLY love me!!
ME: Yep, Zac, I do.
T: Thanks!
I: Yeah, thanks.
RD: Well, we gotta get to the next caller. Thanks for listening to the Countdown!!
ME: Bye!!
I, T, and Z: BYE!!!!
I went to sleep feeling MUCH better!! Well, that's my Hanson story. It was cool and I'm glad I could actually talk 2 them. It was a dumb question 2 ask, but I wasn't thinking. It was 1 AM my time!!
