"Soring the Gaited Horse--it's simply not acceptable anymore!!"
http://www.eagleridge-twh.com/soredhorses.htm
"If you think all show horses are pampered and well-cared for, think again. Many Tennessee Walking Horses are subjected to a cruel practice known as soring—the intentional infliction of pain to their feet and legs to produce an exaggerated gait known as the "Big Lick". The lives of many Tennessee Walking Horses trained in this manner are filled with pain, suffering, and fear. Most are kept in stalls the majority of the time--fitted with tall, heavy shoes, their legs covered with caustic chemicals meant to cause pain, these horses are subjected to extreme cruelty, all for the sake of a ribbon. The HSUS is working for increased enforcement of the federal Horse Protection Act and other laws that are meant to protect these majestic animals. "

My Horse
I will not change my horse with any that treads.
He bounds from the earth;
When I bestride him, I soar, I am a
hawk.
He trots the air; the earth sings when
he touches it.
The basest horn of his hoof is more
musical than the pipe of Hermes.
He's of the color of the nutmeg and of
the heat of the ginger.
He is pure air and fire, and the dull
elements
Of earth and water never appear in him,
But only in patient stillness while his
rider mounts him...
His neigh is like the bidding of a
monarch,
And his countenance enforces homage.
-- William Shakespeare
"THOU SHALT NOT PUT THY PETTY AMBITIONS AHEAD OF
THY HORSE'S WELFARE
For truly, no horse knows the cut of your saddle, the style of your hat, the color of your ribbon, the time on your watch, nor the smell of your money."
