   Teacher's Social Studies Objectives
( The activities for these objectives meet 15-A.1, 15-C.1, 15-E.1,2,  16-B.1, 16-C.1,2

                For social studies, (see CAS Social Studies).

I. Geography
    A. Students will locate cities on a map.
    B. Students will differentiate between city and state by writing
         city names, and then state names.
    C. Students will write letters home which will include an
         "address" from any city, state location of Annie's tour.
    D. Students will identify different cities on the tour menu, and
          write the name of the state.
    E. Students will describe Broadway as being neither a city
         nor a state.
    F.  Students will locate Broadway on a map.
    G. Students will describe the characteristics of New York,
          Chicago, and major cities that Annie tours.
    H. Students will contrast smaller cities and suburbs to the
          large metropolitan areas in terms of arts and entertainment
          opportunities.
    I.   Students will use a compass rose on a map.
    J.  Students will create a map, using a key, and compass rose.
    K.  Students will identify cardinal directions of cities on a map.
    L.   Students will identify regions on a map according to the
            characteristic of being West Coast, East Coast, and
            Midwest.

II.  Transportation, Community, Work, and Home
    A.  Students will learn vocabulary words related to Social
          Studies, and how they are integrated into the theme of
          Annie.
    B.  Students will identify and describe modes of transportation
           from the movie Annie.
    C.  Students will compare and contrast modes of transportation
           from the 1930's to the present time.
    D.   Students will identify goods and services that are clearly
            seen on the movie Annie, and those that are clearly lacking
            in the movie.
    E.    Students will categorize goods and services as needs
            and wants.
    F.    Students will compare and contrast different kinds of
            shelter.
    G.    Students will discuss the role of "work" in the community.

III. Communication
    A.    Students will identify communication media as being
            best suited toward different senses.
    B.    Students will describe communication as "sharing ideas".
    C.    Students will create a Radio Show, with advertising, and
            features.
    D.    Students will define a sponsor as someone who pays you
            to put on your show.
    E.    Students will write jingles and poems about their product.
    F.    Students will analyze ads for facts and opinions.
    G.    Students will name and illustrate a form of communication
            for each of the senses.

IV.    History
    A.     Students will observe President Roosevelt (FDR) in the
            movie Annie, and discuss how his wheelchair did not
            affect his presidency.
    B.    Students will make a timeline of presidents in our history.
    C.    Students will describe the "Great Depression" as a time
            during the 1930's when people lost their jobs, homes,
            money savings, and tried to move out West to find jobs.
    D.     Students will discuss the presidency of Herbert Hoover
            (1928-1932) as being a time of great blight, when many
            poor people moved into "Hoovervilles", or shanty towns.
    E.    Students will relate the song from "Annie", "We'd Like to
            Thank you Herbert Hoover" as being one of sarcasm
            and disdain for the Hoovervilles.
    F.    Students will write about what it would be like to live in
            a Hooverville.
