All for the Glory of God
On Saturday, March 25 we the 6 Inch Voices were at OLCHS for the annual Battle of the Bands. It think its important to say that we didn’t win 2nd place there. God did. Without Him 6 Inch Voices wouldn’t even exist as the band it is today. An 8 person ska band is an extremely hard group to assemble, but God answered our prayers, and brought all of us together. 3 months ago it seemed like an impossible dream to hope we’d have a full band by Battle. But we kept on praying, and slowly the band came together. About a month ago, once our whole band had finally come together, we couldn’t deny God’s power. He proved that when we totally put our trust in Him, He will come through. We trusted Him to bring a band together in 3 months and He did it in 2. We trusted Him to help us learn our music by Battle and He did.
However the main point I’d like to make has to do with why we were at the Battle. Sure, we loved playing in front of everyone. It’s an experience that we all had been looking forward to for weeks. Although its easy in that situation to loose our focus. We did everything in our power to keep from losing our focus there. The truth is, we didn’t regard the Battle as a performance for the crowd. We want to play to worship and praise God. To worship Him is a privilidge we’re grateful to have.
As the title of this message says, we’re trying to make everything we do be for the glory of God. What we did could not have been done without God. That’s why we regard prayer so highly. Prayers at our practices, at the Battle, and prayers from outside the band supporting us are what keep us going.
Despite what people may say, we truly do have a purpose behind our band, and His name is Jesus. We’re not at all trying to put ourselves on a platform by saying these things either. We’re simply playing to praise Him, and that’s why we aren’t discouraged by outside obstacles. Some things people said in our guestbook and though email to us could have easily made us just give up. But we know that persecution is only temporary, just as this life is. Saying stuff about us (and all followers of Christ in general) won’t last forever, but God will. If you think about the things that we worry about in our everyday lives, and compare them to what’s gonna happen in eternity, they don’t seem so big. I mean we’re only on this Earth for about 80 to 100 years. That amount of time may seem huge now but think about after that… I’m talking eternity. What’s the point of chasing everyday worries when they don’t really matter? God says to praise Him in everything we do. So why not do it through music? Temporary recogniton is not so much worth it, if your alternative is eternal life in Heaven. If you’re a Christian or a follower of Christ in general, stand up for that fact. He’s given His life for each of us. The least we can do is live an example life so that others may see the great things He’s done for us.
1 Corinthians 10:31 – “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the Glory of God.”
