Enemy Skill Guide
You first find the Enemy Skill Materia after you defeat H0512 in the Shin-Ra Building. But you won't be able to use it until after you leave Midgar. I have mastered the Enemy Skill Materia, and I'll tell you right now, it's no easy task. Some of the Enemy Skills are attacks used on you. But others are defensive-based and will heal or protect your party. Your enemies obviously won't use these on you. Here are some basic tips to mastering the Enemy Skills.
- The Manipulate Materia is a must-have. You won't be able to get this until Cait Sith joins your party during your first trip to the Gold Saucer. So some defensive Enemy Skills like Big Guard or White Wind will have to wait. The Hypno Crown is not necessary, but it helps. It's always a good idea to try Manipulating your enemy first, then using the Enemy Skill on your party member who has the Materia equipped. Be warned that some enemies can't be manipulated, like Molboro and the Midgar Zolom as well as all the bosses.
- You'll have a chance to get a second Enemy Skill Materia in the game. My advice, USE IT!! The more Enemy Skills you have, the better.
The following is a list of all the Enemy Skills and where you can find them.
- ????: One enemy takes an amount of type-less damage equal to your HP max minus your current HP level. Shin-Ra Mansion: Jersey; Midgar Area: Behemoth; and about every other enemy in the game.
- Angel Whisper: Completely refills the HP and cures most status effects of one target. It will also revive and completely reful the HP of a dead party member. Crater: Pollensatia.
- Aqualung: Does a moderate amount of water-type damage to all enemies. This is one of your most powerful spells if you retrieve it early in the game. Gold Saucer Desert (must return in the Buggy): Chimera; Forgotten City (where Aeris dies): Jenova-LIFE; Crashed Gelnika: Serpeant.
- Bad Breath: Casts Bio, Sleep, Mini, Frog, and Confu on all enemies. Gaea Cliff: Molbor; Crater: Molbor.
- Beta: Does a moderate amount of fire-type damage to all enemies. Chocobo Farm Swamp: Midgar Zolom. NOTE: I went after the Midgar Zolom when my characters were around Level 40. I had one character casting Sense to see how much HP it had left, another casting defensive spells, and a third using physical attacks on it. When the Zolom's HP gets low enough, it'll cast Beta. At that point, hit it with everything you've got to wipe it out.
- Big Guard: Casts Barrier, MBarrier, and Haste on your whole party. This comes in really helpful. Costa del Sol Beach: Beach Plug. NOTE: You can only get this Enemy Skill by Manipulating one of the Beach Plugs. And by the Beach, I mean the beach on the world map, not the beach where you see Hojo.
- Chocobuckle: One enemy takes an amount of type-less damage equal to the caster's Level multiplied by the number of times your party has run away. Grasslands Area: Level 16 Chocobo. NOTE: You must attack the Chocobo for this to work.
- Death Force: Prevents death spells. Wutai Beach (where you leave the Tiny Bronco): Adamantamai.
- Roulette: One character in the battle, either enemy or ally, chosen randomly, will be instantly killed in the battle. This doesn't work on bosses. Crater: Death Claw.
- Death Sentence: Once casted, the enemy will die in 60 seconds. Doesn't work on bosses. Gi Cave: Sneaky Step, Gi Spectre, others; Zango Valley: Boundfat.
- Dragon Force: One target's physical and magical defense are increased by 50%. Crater: Dark Dragon.
- Flame Thrower: Does a moderate amount of fire-type damage to an opponent. Mythril Mines: Archdragon; Mt. Nibel: Dragon.
- Frog Song: Casts Toad and Sleep on one target, or cures the Toad status. Gongaga Area: Touch Me (I'm not joking, that's its name); Temple of Ancients: Toxic Frog.
- Goblin Punch: Does light, type-less damage to one enemy. If the enemy is at the same level as you, it does heavy damage. Northeast Island: Goblin (you can also steal a Zeio Nut from the Goblins).
- Laser: Reduces one target's current HP level by half. Doesn't work on bosses as well as some enemies. Corel Prison: Bull Motor; Crater: Dark Dragon.
- L4 Suicide: Casts Death Sentence and Mini on all enemies whose level is a multiple of 4. Grasslands Area: Mu; Bone Village Area: Trickplay.
- L5 Death: Instantly kills all enemies whose level is a multiple of 5. Crater: Parasite.
- Magic Breath: Does heavy Fire/Ice/Lightning damage to all enemies. Gaea Cliff: Stilv; Crater: Parasite.
- Magic Hammer: Drains 100 MP from one enemy. Wutai Area (only on the grass): Razor Weed.
- Matra Magic: Does light, type-less damage to all enemies. Midgar Area: Custom Sweeoers, various others; Junon: Death Machine.
- Pandora's Box: Does a heavy amount of type-less damage to all enemies. Crater: Dragon Zombie.
- Shadow Flare: Hits one enemy with an extremely heavy amount of type-less damage. Disc 3: Ultimate WEAPON; Crater: Dragon Zombie, Seraph-Sephiroth (Sephiroth's final form).
- Trine: Does a moderate amount of lightning-type damage to all enemies. Mt. Nibel: Materia Keeper; Gaea Cliff: Stilv; Pagoda of the Five Mighty Gods in Wutai: Godo.
- White Wind: Refills the HP of all allies by an amount equal to the caster's current HP level. Junon Area: Zemzelett; Whirlwind Maze: Wind Wing.
