Tess' Sugar Ray Concert Review

6/5/99
Rockfest, Atlanta, GA

I got there last night...we flew down to Atlanta on Friday and stayed the weekend. The whole thing ruled. Their set at Rockfest RULED but..the crowd...I don't think half of them actually REALLY knew what band was up on stage..THE BAND..the GREATEST BAND!!! I'm not talking about up front on the moshpit cause well it was wild there but when I walked to the other parts and was standing right behind the 'death pit' either everyone was drunk and passed out...making out...or they just came to tan in their lawn chairs..very weird.. I was trying to scream enough for 127,000 of us because when Mark wanted to do Rock 'n' Roll Kareoke (can't spell that, lol) the other guys were like...these guys don't deserve it.."they're quiet..asleep..not screaming...." but Mark wanted to do it anyway.. so we all sang along to a little Twisted Sisters. We're not gonna take it..anymore"..oh yeah..another bad thing happened..the sound blew one time..it was during RPM..I think because it was right at the beginning of the set. Anyway that sucked because it always happens when I see Sugar Ray..I think they're just too much for the power. But then Mark was talking about his Grandma..I was crying before he told the crowd about it..because he mentioned it at the Willaimsburg (4/26) concert when I met them..and after the show I talked to him about how sorry I was and..just being able to talk to him and connect him on another level besides about "you guys were great tonight" was cool..anyway at Rockfest he was talking about how VERY VERY hard it was touring when he could have been home with his family during this trying time and right when he said the part about how he could have been home instead of touring..you could hear it in his voice and he just burst into tears it was soooo horribly sad..the camera was closed in on him too and he had his hands over his face for the longest time..ahh I was dying then..because that didn't help that half the people in the crowd weren't into their set and weren't supportive but none of them had hearts..that part was just sad but of course he got right back into it and rocked some more. But it kinda disappointed me when Sugar Ray was on. But the whole thing ROCKED I'm not saying it didn't but I had to point those things out.
