(They are walking into Dorian’s bedroom. She has her coat off and carrying a glass & liquor decanter, he still has his coat on carrying a drink)
BLAIR: (turning on the light switch) And so this Mr. Manning is the room of rooms! You can say whatever you want about my aunt Dorian, but she has great taste. In bed (sit on it) and in views (gets up crosses to the window and then the table to pour her self a drink, he looks at bed nervously) So, take off your coat and stay awhile.
TODD: (he goes to look out the window, keeping his coat on) It’s funny, when I was in prep school, I used to tell everybody that I was gonna live in a penthouse. And I was gonna drive a black sports car that did 0-60 in, like, six seconds. (turns back to her and leans on mantel) Here you are, you got both of them.
BLAIR: (her back to him) Yeah. So what else did you dream about, Todd?
TODD: I wasn’t much of a dreamer.
BLAIR: Oh, come on, everybody has dreams, lots of them.
TODD: My father used to say that dreamers were time wasters. That the only people that counted in life were the doers.
BLAIR: Your daddy sure would’ve hated me then!
TODD: Yep. Join the club. (he downs his drink)
BLAIR: When I was a little girl, mmm, that’s all I ever did was dream (she lounges back on the bed, sexily) and I had nothing, absolutely nothing. And I wanted everything, cars, money, furs, jewelry, views, you name it, I wanted it! But it wasn’t until I got older and people started telling me how pretty I was, that I was able to start getting what I wanted, for awhile anyway. I even married me a millionaire. But, of course, in doing so, I threw away everything that really matters, so I guess I didn’t really end up with anything, did I? Oh well, (getting up, crossing back to table) no need to dig up these old memories. The past is the past. (phone rings)
TODD: (phone rings couple more times) Gonna get that?
BLAIR: (she knows it’s probably Cord) I’m sick of dealing with the real world. My day’s over. (looks at him) How about you?
TODD: (she stares at him, he walks a few steps towards her) Look, Blair, it seems to me you got everything back I mean, the penthouse and the car part. I mean what else could you want?
BLAIR: Respect. (goes up to him) I’m so tired of being on the outside all the time, hoping someone will reach out and take care of me, make me feel safe, you know? Respect.
TODD: I could go for a little bit of that myself.
BLAIR: Yeah. (she slowly moves closer to him reaches out to his hair and he jerks away and walks past her to begin to leave. Abruptly he stops. She looks rejected. He makes up his mind whips off his coat throws it on the floor and turns facing her)
TODD: (he swallows, and then says a statement that tells sooo much) If you want me to stop, you just let me know. (he walks towards her slowly, they are face to face)
BLAIR: (she sits back on the bed) Merry Christmas. (reaches her hand out to him and he slowly takes it. He kneels on the bed and slowly he leans down to kiss her. This time he is gentle with her, building slowly to passion, fade out)
Scene break
(Blair is in a short robe sitting at the end of the bed with her knees up rubbing them. Todd is standing finishing dressing, buttoning his shirt. Both are very awkward “afterwards,” they certainly don’t want to make it any kind of commitment. Todd has no idea or experience in how to handle the after glow and just wants to leave quickly)
BLAIR: Todd, you really don’t have to rush off.
TODD: I’m not. Relax I just dress fast. I’m, uh, I’m gonna run.
BLAIR: Okay. So....
TODD: What? (whips on his jacket)
BLAIR: Nothing, never mind.....I’m sorry.
TODD: Look....
BLAIR: What?
TODD: I’m just gonna say this alright. (big sigh, sitting facing opposite her, very unsure of his performance) Maybe we, uh, had fun.
BLAIR: Sure, we had....we had a lot of fun, but it’s....
TODD: Right, I mean that’s exactly what I was gonna say, it’s just one of those things.
BLAIR: Spur of the moment.
TODD: Right just happened and I don’t see.....(sigh) why we should make a.....big thing.....
BLAIR: (sincerely) Thank you.
TODD: Right. Look (gets ups quick, puts on his coat) I gotta get out of here before I get used to this penthouse thing, right?
BLAIR: Look, Todd, maybe you should heed some of your father’s advice.
TODD: What? Find out who I am?
BLAIR: No. The part about not dreaming all the time but doing. Why don’t you go out, get a job, make a few million. Who knows? In a year or so, you might have your own penthouse.
TODD: Yeah right. It’s not gonna happen. It’s a nice thought though, thanks.
BLAIR: Todd? Happy Holidays!
TODD: Yeah, you too. Thanks for the Christmas present. (starts to leave)
BLAIR: Todd? (he turns back to her) What are friends for? (he stares for a second, then leaves. Blair remains sitting, thinking)
