Troop Song

The Troop Song was originally written by former Scoutmaster Joe Duran
in the late 1960s.

There have been many verses to the Troop Song over the years.
Here are a few.  St. Alphonsus Scouts are encouraged
to write additional ones.

We're The Scouts of 889

(Tune: Similar to Johnny Verbeck)

Oh, we're the Scouts from 889
You've heard so much about.
The people stop and stare at us
Whenever we go out.
We're not the least bit stuck up
About the clever things we do.
Most everybody likes us
And we hope you like us, too!

(Chorus):  As we go camping
And the gang begins to (shouted) Y-E-L-L!
(sung) You can hear them shouting,
(shouted) "889! 889!
We can't be beat!"

I baked a batch of biscuits
For Troop Eight Eighty-Nine.
One rolled off the table
And killed a friend of mine.
My cooking's not the greatest
But one thing can't be matched:
I've poisoned all the counselors
Of Cooking Merit Badge!

(Chorus)

I tried to earn my Fire'em Chit
At Camp Owasippe
But using just two matches
Seemed awfully hard to me.
So I took a can of gasoline
And poured it all around.
It lit real good with just one match,
But Owasippe burned down.

(Chorus)

A Scout is always ready
To help someone in need
So I went down to the corner
To try to do my deed.
A lady in the crosswalk
With traffic all around
So I climbed into a truck
And helped the driver run her down.

(Chorus)

A friend of mine named Willie
Was out to have some fun.
He accidentally shot his sister
With a BB gun.
I said to my friend, Willie,
"Now I'm ashamed of you.
You shouldn't play with BBs
Next time use a .22!
