The Company of One Another

"Are you ready yet, Michelle?" Brian hollered up the stairs of the Orlando-based home that he shared with his long-time girlfriend. "We have to get going."
"Yeah, I'm coming, but my hair looks like a mess," she replied with a pout as she made her way down the stairs, her hands in her red hair still fussing with it trying so hard to make it look the way she wanted.
"You look fine. I'd rather see you with messy hair, than miss our flight," Brian smiled giving her a kiss on the lips as he took her hand in his. "Trust me, the guys would leave without me, but since they know you're coming, that's a different story."
"Alright," Michelle said with a giggle. "But we really to have to get going. Kevin is a real stiff on being late, which we're coming very close to being. Now that, he won't spare even me on."
"That's true," Brian replied as they walked toward the door. Brian spotted a candy bar on the counter, and grabbed it, slipping it in his pocket for later, because he knew he'd get hungry on the plane.
The couple grabbed their luggage for the weekend trip that they were taking, along with the other members of the Backstreet Boys, to Canada for a show that the pop group was doing. Michelle and Kelsey, Kevin's significant other, would be the only other company that the guys would have, aside from each other, on the private jet ride over.
Brian and Michelle hurriedly made their way to the executive airport, just escaping the crowd of Backstreet Boys fans, who were all waiting to sneak just a peek at their favorite musicians outside of the gates where the small aircraft was located. They were the last to arrive, and were escorted aboard as soon as possible. Once on board, Brian and Michelle became aquatinted with their friends, but tried their best to avoid the look that was being shot toward them from Kevin for being a few minutes late, delaying their take off. It was expected though.
"What kept you two?" Nick asked.
"We were busy, sorry," Brian apologized sincerely. "Oh, busy were you?" A.J grinned trying to allude to an unnecessary topic. He was just trying to stir up an interesting conversation.
"No, A.J, not that kind of busy," Michelle answered with a shake of her head and a laugh. "Just some last minute packing and fixing, that's all."
"Okay, I guess I'll have to take your word for it."
"Yes, you will!" exclaimed Brian.
Eventually, with the greatness in his maturity, Kevin was able to forget about yet another human mistake that his cousin and younger group mates often made. He was used to that kind of stuff and definitely became a very forgiving man since it happened so often. He just got overly uptight about it this time because he and Kelsey had something planned the moment they arrived. The group of tight knit friends chatted among themselves for the first hour of their three hour long flight.
A tumultuous shake interrupted the their conversation, just as the plane began its spiraling fall to the unknown below. Apparently, there was a serious problem with the engine of the private leer jet, and everyone was both frightened and confused at what was happening. Brian took a hold of his girlfriend, and the plane hit with the force of a tidal wave, nose end buried, on a hillside in the country over looking an orchard.
Still able to think and function, Nick, A.J, and Howie pulled each other out of the cramped aircraft. After making it out safely and uninjured, they spotted Kevin with Kelsey in his arms and, finally, Brian and Michelle heading their way.
"Wait! The pilot! Where's he?" Howie asked, alarmed. "Still in there, I guess," A.J answered out of breath and then fell to the ground where already, Brian, Michelle, Nick, and Kelsey were lying.
The only person that feared could have possibly been injured would've been, in fact, the pilot since the aircraft crushed the anything ahead of the main cabin. That was also why everyone else was on the safe side.
They all lay there trying to let whatever had just happened to them sink in. The pilot, later discovered, was dead, so there wasn't anything more that they could do for him. No one out of the group was seriously injured, just minor cuts and bruises, luckily.
"What just happened?" Nick asked in a serious tone.
"Honestly, I don't know," Brian answered before checking on his girlfriend. "Michelle, are you okay?"
"Uh," was all that came out of her mouth as tears began rolling down her cheek. Brian took her in his arms and held her close to his body. Michelle felt safe in his arms.
About two hours past, and everyone was beginning to realize that the needed to get help somehow.
"I saw a small town not too far off from where we crashed when we were still in the plane," Howie stated.
"Well, since there's no other choice, unless we just want to sit here and daydream until we die, that's fine with me," Kevin said.
"Then, let's split up," A.J suggested.
They all divided themselves into groups: Nick, A.J, and Howie went one way, Kevin and Kelsey the opposite, which left Brian and Michelle to go their own way. Slowly, they all split and hoped that they would meet up again after someone found help. Realizing that they might never see each other again, created a wave of emotions that brought them all to tears.
Eventually though, they knew that they had to go and peal away from each other. Brian glanced and spotted a gigantic field near the base of the hill. He decided that they would go in that direction. As time went by, the couple made progress and were nearly halfway through what appeared to be an orchard.
"How about we take a break at this next opening, ahead?" Michelle asked.
"Sure, baby. I'll race you there!" Brian hollered, being on the childish side that he sometimes enjoyed being. They both took off in a breeze, running through the field, enjoying the great atmosphere and the beating of the sun's heat.
Finally, reaching their destination Michelle arrived just before Brian. He came toward her and knocked her to the ground landing on top, both of them laughing hysterically. Even though they had just gone through such a traumatic experience, they didn't think it was odd that they were enjoying themselves so much because the accident had brought them closer together. The area was also so amazingly beautiful that there was no reason to spoil such a romantic and peaceful setting, anyway.
After they parted, they lay there together and watched the clouds pass, trying sometimes to make out little pictures, until they were suddenly interrupted.
"Is my sweetheart hungry?" Michelle asked after hearing a roar from his stomach.
"Hey, wait! I have a candy bar in my pocket. I grabbed it on our way out of the house," Brain said.
"Ooo…. Sounds good," Michelle smiled sitting up, taking notice, and grabbing it from his hands. She unwrapped it very impatiently.
"Well, I guess someone's more hungry than I am."
"How about this, we split it?" Michelle smiled.
"I have a better idea!" Brian exclaimed. "How about we share it?"
"Even better. I love you."
"I love you, too," he replied.
The lovers shared the candy bar slowly enjoying and savoring every taste touched their lips. They had never been as close to each other as they had been for the last few hours, no that they weren't close, but it was slightly different, and Brian and Michelle knew that it was because of what they had just gone through together. Brain, having to go through another near death experience, brought back his memories of when he was dying from a hole in his heard at age five, to open heart surgery at 23 not too many years ago. He had a small, yet very tough exterior, which rarely revealed his sensitive soul that he was not confident of revealing to his, also problem troubled girlfriend.
Michelle on the other hand, had gone through so much more emotionally than physically, though Brian's heart problems did cause quite an emotional period in his life. Through her childhood and year adolescence years, it was almost too difficult handle and nearly scared her for life, up until, of course, she met Brian. She knew that from the moment they first touched that even if the sky fell, he would be there to protect and love her. Together, they created a beautiful relationship that took its first giant step, and struck a gut feeling in them, when they kissed after finishing the candy bar. Eventually falling asleep.
"Hey! You two lovebirds! Do you want us to leave you out here to rot glued together, or do you want to come home with the rest of us?" Kevin's voice awoke the couple from their sleep.
"Whoa! Hey…wait a sec...what...huh?" Brian stuttered surprisingly as he sat up holding his girlfriend who was still partly sleeping.
"Well, Kelsey and I found a little town about an hour into our search. Not too long after that, we figured out that the rest of the guys were in the next town over, so we met up with them. We all then got a search party together to look for you two," Kevin explained pointing to the two helicopters that stood about 100 feet away from them. "Who apparently, are lazily sleeping in this gorgeous setting instead of helping us all find help. Thanks a lot!" Kevin laughed sarcastically and offered a hand to pull them up. "Let's go home!"
After all piling into the helicopters, they were taken to the nearest airport and returned home to the warm Florida sunshine. The Backstreet Boys eventually made up the show that they missed in Canada, this time flying successfully.
About a year later, Brian and Michelle had a marvelously romantic and beautiful wedding at the same orchard where they shared a very special connection together. Even though one of the biggest accidents in their lives happened in that exact same spot and it wouldn't seem right to get married there, that wasn't their thought at all. After their kiss a year before, was the first time they realized that they wanted to spend all of eternity in the company of one another.

The End
