Stephanie's Song

Part 2

~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm convinced that you hate me
You like to see me cry
It’s already a proven fact
And you wait and wait on me to die
It’s all scary, I find it hard to confide
I want you to see it my way
You give, I take, you say you want to be away from me
You make me I've got a reason and I want to know
You take me down I've got a reason and I want to know
“It would be nice. Besides you aren’t even sure if they don’t like you anymore.”
“Fine. I’ll call them and then get back to ya.”
“Alright. I’ll talk to you later sweetie.”
“K mom. Bye.”
Steph hung up her phone and went back to the others. Fatima was talking about something with the guys, so Steph just stood back and waited. Fatima soon finished talking to the guys and turned to Steph.
“Steph, the guys and I thought of a nice surprise for you tonight at the concert. It’ll be somewhat of an…initiation to the Backstreet Clan.”
“Ok. Should I be scared?”
“No! We won’t do anything…bad,” Nick replied with a mischievous grin on his face.
“Nick, that grin doesn’t help.”
“Well,” Fatima interjected before anything else could happen, “Steph, you’re done with sound check, so you have free time. Guys, it’s your turn now.”
The guys grumbled and went to take their places onstage. Steph laughed and shook her head. She then went and grabbed her stuff and headed back to her dressing room. Steph sighed as she opened the door to the room.
“Now I have to call people that basically hate me now. Yippitty do da day.” Steph picked up her cell phone and dialed the all too familiar number.
“Hello?”
“Hi…Diana? It’s Steph.”
“Oh…hey.”
“I just wanted to know if you wanted tickets to the BSB concert when we come to Chicago.”
“Sure. Now if you don’t mind, I have things to do.”
“Wait. One more thing. Why the hell have you become distant to me lately?” no answer. “Diana, what’s going on?”
“Look I need to go.” Click.
“What the hell?!” Steph threw a book across the room. “She wouldn’t even answer me!” Steph decided to call Natalie.
“Hello?”
“Hoffa? It’s Steph. Can you talk for a few?”
“Uhh…yeah…sure.”
“I was just wondering if you wanted tickets to the BSB show when were in Chicago.”
“Ok. Hey I got to go. Sorry. Bye.” Click.
“Well at least she said that she was ‘sorry.’”
Steph continued to make calls to all of her “friends” which basically went similar to her talks with Natalie and Diana. By the time she was done, she was in a pretty bad mood and was playing her Korn CD pretty loud. Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Steph got up and answered it.
“Nick! Brian! Uhh…c’mon in.”
“You look like you’re in a bad mood. What’s up?” Brian asked. Steph turned off her CD and sat in a chair across from the sofa where Nick and Brian were sitting.
“I am in a bad mood, not to mention depressed. I wouldn’t want to burden you guys with my problems though.”
“No it’s ok,” Nick said. “We’re here to listen.”
“Well…ok. Ever since I made it into the music industry and hit it big, all of my friends back home don’t want anything to do with me. I haven’t changed ‘cause my best friend in Tennessee is still with me and says that I haven’t changed,” a tear rolled down her cheek. “I mean I call them up and they never seem to have time to talk to me. When I’m back home they ‘have other plans’ whenever I call them to see if they want to do something.” At this point Steph was in tears and Brian and Nick had gotten up to comfort her. “I just don’t know what went wrong! Before all of this I had several good friendships. After getting my big break it all went downhill! Sometimes I wish I never became famous...”
“Shh. Steph stop crying. It’s gonna be okay,” Brian soothed rubbing her back. Nick just held her as she cried. Nick and Brian exchanged looks as if to say ‘This girl doesn’t deserve this’ and continued to comfort her. A few minutes later, Steph stopped crying and immediately turned red with embarrassment.
“Oh man. Now I feel like a complete idiot…”
“Don’t be embarrassed! You needed to get that out,” Nick replied.
“I know, but I totally soaked your shirt!”
“Don’t worry about it,” Nick smiled.
“Yeah. He has like 10 of those shirts anyway,” Brian joked.
“I do not!” Nick somewhat whined. Steph cracked up. Just then there was a knock on the door, and Steph’s hairstylist and makeup artist came in.
“Well we better get going so you can get ready,” Brian said.
“And don’t forget your surprise!” Nick added.
“I won’t. Oh, and thanks guys.”
“Anytime,” Brian and Nick replied at the same time.
Steph smiled at them and sat down in the chair so that the hairstylist and makeup artist could start getting her ready.
