First Graders Shouldn't Miss These Titles

A First Grader Could Read These Titles Alone

These are some titles that can be read to a first grader: Orphan Train Rider by Andrea Warren; Growing Up In Coal Country by Susan Bartoletti; Lincoln: A Photobiography by Russel Freedman; Shipwreck at the bottom of the world: the extraordinary true story of Shackleton and the Endurance by Jennifer Armstrong. These titles could be used to introduce young readers to historical fiction. They are based on real events and have beautiful photo layouts that both children and adults will enjoy. The texts are somewhat difficult and so I recommend that adults read these titles with children.
