Mrs. Mary Chapman Morgareidge was born within one and a half miles of Dexter City, Ohio. Born Sept. 10 1812, when there were only a few families in the community. She died at her home in Dexter City, Sept. 20, 1897, aged 85 years and 16 days. For some time her health has been quite poor with diseases incident to old age, but was confined to her bed only a week.
She was married to Mr. Burnham Morgareidge in 1830. He departed this life in 1875, twenty one years ago. HIs funeral sermon was preached by Rev. C. H. Gunler, then pastor of the Calddwell Baptist Church. There were born to this union nine sons and four daughters. Two of the sons and two of the daughters hav preceded her to the Spirit land. The oldest child is still living and is sixty six years of age. The youngest who is forty three years of age is living in Colorado.
She lived to see five generations of her own family. Of her 46 grandchildren 30 are living: of 42 Great grandchildren 36 are living; and one great great grandchild which is four years of age. 76 decendants living and 26 dead.
"Like a shock of corn, she has come to her grave in full age, in her season."
Mother Morgareidge was well knowns for her charitable actions. She was a kind mother, an affectionate wife and good neighbor ands was always readyto help the needy ones. She died a firm believer in the bible. A while before she passed away she exclaimed "Blessed Jesus."
The funeral services were held in the M. E. church Tuesday at 10 a.m. Rev. E. W. Dannels preched from these words, "We all do fade as a leaf" Isaiah 4:6. A large number of relatives and friends followed her to her resting place beside her husband in Dexter City Cemetary.
