Part 11

Alex's POV

I hunched down as the door opened a crack, a familiar scent wafted through...fear.  I watch as the blond head peers from behind the door.  I recognize him as the one who talked to me before...the one who said he would help.

"Kaa" was all I could recall.  It was getting infinitely harder to think.

A smile crossed his face.  Was he smiling at me?  I know how I must look, bruised from hitting walls, my shirt torn from the fighting, my skin burned from the infernal shocking machine.  I felt like prey, hunted by many men.  Caged away for their amusement.  Maybe they were saving me to be the fox in their hunt.

I close my eyes and picture Kayla.  Her beautiful smiling face.  She always wore a smile when we were together.  As I watch her face grows dark, the smile fades.  The flesh starts rotting and falling from the bones.

"No!" I gasp, placing my arms covering my head I scream.

I feel arms surround me holding me tight, pulling me closer to a warm body.  I resist but the grip is holding me tighter.  Words echo into my ear, so soft and gentle. 'Help...protect...save'.  They hold such infinite possibility.  The hold I'm in is deliberate yet oddly comforting.  I feel like a newborn as I snuggle into his chest.  Help...I feel the power behind the word.  Protect...so genuine I can feel it in my bones.  Save...a word that affects my very soul.  I do not want to move from my newfound savior, but judging from his body movements I can tell that he doesn't want to stay here any longer. I peer up at his face, those angelic eyes watching over me.  I would follow those eyes anywhere.

(3rd person POV)

Quatre came out of the cell leading Alex by the arm, much to the shock of the other pilots. Duo sized up the girl.  She seemed to have transformed in the few minutes Quatre had spent alone with her.  But she was nothing like the girl he had run into only 40 hours prior.  A change so drastic he would have never believed it had he not seen it with his own eyes.  She was so leery of everyone, even Quatre, but she clung to his arm so readily.  It was almost like she was desperate for human contact no matter who it was.  He mused at the thought of her clinging to Heero, how would the perfect soldier react?

"So glad you have settled down my little guest for me." An intruding voice said.

The group turned to look at the man who had startled them all.

Treize held his antique gun upon the group.  He smiled as Alex snarled at him.  "Oh Alex dear, how could you act this way towards family?"
