EYE BALANCE
Four points are needed to distinguish your best pigeons.
If your pigeon has top scores on these items:
- Circle
of correlation 44
- Inner
circle 44
- Sensitivity 44
- Iris
pigmentation 44
Pigeons with these types of eyes are rare and are super
champions.
They can breed super champions without any so called eye breeding
points.

BODY CONFORMATION
Faults
No fault will eliminate a pigeon as worthy, nor could any
great strength make a pigeon champion.
- Frontal
look of head, slightly downward and cross-eyed.
- From
the sides eyes should neither bulge nor be recessed.
- Eye to
centered in head.
- Beak
line to dissect center of the eye.
- The
cere should be wide, white and hug the eye tightly.
- A flat
top is okay.
- The
rear skull should be rounded.
The Tail
- Width
of tail should be narrow such as one feather width to 1 1/2 inch width.
- Many
champions have what is considered by many as too long.
- For
the most part the primaries should reach the black portion of the
tail. Some excellent short
distance racers fall short of this trait.
The back + rump
- Back
and rump strength are forgotten by lesser fanciers.
- The
tail or rudder must be strong to fight turbulent winds.
- In
addition, forward action of the 9 air sac chain for respiration starts
here.
- There
should be a rise similar to an inverted teaspoon here.
Frontal Body Look
- Should
be broad for large lung and muscle capacity.
- This
wide look should taper (funnel) quickly to the back and rump juncture.
The wings
- The
wings of super long distance pigeons are super flexible, and will lie
motionless on the inspectors hand.
- The
ones with snapback quality + vibration can be champions, but of lesser
quality than the aforementioned ones. In flight, the tertiary feathers should cover the back.
- The
butt of the wing should be thick but not exaggerated.
- The
forearm must have ample meat (muscle) for obvious reasons.
- There
should be short step of 1/2 to 3/4 inch between the primary and secondary
juncture.
- Many
long distance champs will have two steps – the second one –
between 6 and 7 primaries.
- The
last four primaries are the hand and these four box feathers should be
long and almost equal length.
I prefer the #10 feather to be about 3/8Ó shorter than the #9 (65
years experience on this).
- Skilled
selectors can test the wing by undulation of the primaries while holding
the box feathers. The strength
of the tendon and other qualities are found by this method. The tendon also goes to the third
muscle of flight.
