Lesson Plan #1

Topic: Solar Space and its nine planets

Subject: Language Arts
 

Motivation Goal: The teacher will introduce the subject of the planets by using a video and the internet. The video is titled "The Planets" by the BBC World Productions (The Planets (1997), BBC Science World Productions, DK Publication). The teacher will use the internet source for instruction, Space and Astronomy activities.
 

Objective Goals:

Lesson #1: The students will write a newspaper story after researching and interviewing a classmate about their favorite planet.

Lesson #2: The students will answer a number of questions about the planets.

Lesson #3: The students will read a book about their favourite planet and develop a presentation for the class.

Lesson #4: The students will make prediction about what their weight and age would be on the other planets according to the directions in the activity.

Lesson #5: The students will follow the directions and calculate their weight on each planet,chart and graph their results. The student will compare the results to their predictions.

Lesson #6 The students will follow the directions and calculate their new age on each of the planets and chart their results. The students will compare the results to their predictions. The student will write a one page summary detailing their predictions with the weight and age calculations.
 

Assessment:
Lesson one=scale 1-5, informative, use of several sources, grammar, content.

Lesson two=answers:1.Mercury,Venus, earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. 2.Closet to the sun. 3.Saturn. 4. Pluto. 5. Each planet rotates around its axis, and each planet makes one revolution around the sun.

Lesson three:scale 1-10: Clarity, use of props, organized, several source used for information, knowledge of subject.

Lesson four:finished chart

Lesson five:correct calculations, and use of chart.

Lesson six:correct calculations,use of chart and cohesive summary.
