Avalanche Lake is a beautiful cirque lake located just off Going-to-the-Sun Road. The hike to the lake is about five miles round trip with a realtively easy 500 ft. elevation gain. There are five waterfalls that feed the lake. Just out of sight behind the cirque is Sperry Glacier, which is the source for most of the water that cascades into Avalanche Lake. Avalanche Creek flows from the lake all the way to the valley where it runs into McDonald Creek. Near the parking lot, Avalanche Creek water cascades through the beautiful, narrow canyon of Avalanche Gorge.
