VC Andrews, Cleo Virginia Andrews, was born June 6, 1932 in Portsmouth, VA. One of three children, VC was the only daughter of William Henry Andrews and Lillian Lilnora Parker Andrea. She grew up in Portsmouth, and lived briefly in Rochester, NY. The Andrewses returned to Portsmouth while VC was attending high school.
During her teenage years, VC suffered a horrible accident; she fell down some stairs at her school, causing several spinal injuries. Arthritis and the failure of several sugeries forced VC to spend most of her life using a wheelchair or crutches.
