Chapter 3 : The Departure

"I still don't see why you have to go." Aegea said as she brushed her long blonde hair. Rubeus, watching her from his seat on their bed, sighed with exasperation. "We've been through this before, Love. Prince Diamond wants me to go." "Why? What makes you more special than the others?" Rubeus gave her a mock offended look as he stood and walked over to his wife. "What makes me so special?" he said, smiling. He wrapped his arms about Aegea's waist and lay his chin on her shoulder. "I don't know; but I haven't got a choice." Aegea lay her brush down on the bureau and turned to face Rubeus. "You always have a choice, my love. There must be a better way. Can't we negotiate with Neo-Queen Serenity?" "We've tried. There's no reasoning with her." Aegea sighed and crossed the room to the window. "Then we'll come with you. I'll not let you be alone." Rubeus smiled and suppressed a chuckle. "You KNOW it's not safe for you OR Jacinth. I hate to leave you, but I'd rather be away from the two of you and have you live, than be with you both and have you die." Rubeus said while walking over to his wife. He wrapped his arms about her waist again, and she leaned her head back onto his chest. "I know, I wish it was different." She said softly.

"Please don't leave me." Aegea whispered tearfully as she and Rubeus hugged. He released her and gazed into her eyes. "I have to." Were his only words. He gave her a light kiss, then hugged and kissed his two year-old son. Aegea handed Jacinth to Rubeus and removed a necklace from about her neck. She put it around Rubeus's neck and kissed him. "Come back to me, my love." She said, taking their son back into her arms. With that final kiss, and a sorrowful look at his wife and son, Rubeus began to disappear.

"Prince Diamond, please. It has been four months. Can't I at least SEE my husband? If only for a moment?" Aegea begged the prince. He looked into her eyes. Over the past three years, the unexpected had happened; the "gift" had fallen in love with its "owner". Her pleading eyes touched even his hard, cold heart. "I...." He hesitated. "Alright. You, your brother, and your son may go back in time and see Rubeus. But when there's trouble, you must come back. Do you understand?" "Yes!" She exclaimed. "Thank you, Your Highness!" Aegea, unable to contain herself, hugged Prince Diamond and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Then she ran off in search of Jacinth and Lord Ashka.

"That is the absolute LAST time I let you navigate!" Aegea yelled at her brother. He winced. "Aren't we close?" Ashka asked, although he knew the answer. "Close? If you call across a large ocean CLOSE, then yes. We are quite close!" His younger sister shouted even louder. Ashka tried to quiet her down. The yelling was drawing a crowd and upsetting Jacinth. "No, I will NOT be quiet! Now come on. We must get to Tokyo!"

"Prince Diamond, we've lost track of them." Sapphire informed his older brother. "What a shame." Emerald muttered. "Wise Man." The prince called. "What should be do?" The robed figure appeared, gazing into the crystal ball floating before it. "Claim them as dead. Maybe THEN Rubeus will get some work done." Wise Man replied, disappearing. "It will be done." Prince Diamond replied, motioning for Sapphire to deliver the message.
