Chapter 2: Bad Excuses Never Cut It

Conner trudged outside to his car. He took a deep breath and took a look at the long line of yellow school buses. Right as he was standing there, Megan was on one of those buses. He sighed to himself. It killed him to have Megan so angry with him. His thoughts were sidetracked at the sound of laughter.

"Liz, come on! Don't-" Conner jerked around to see Elizabeth and Maria walking towards Elizabeth's cherry red Jeep. They were laughing and talking like old friends, which they were, of course. Conner took a deep breath, and started walking towards them. You can do this, man. Don't wimp out now! Conner ordered himself. But just as he was standing not even 10 feet away from them, he wimped out.

He took off sprinting past them. I forgot my math book, I am going to fail that quiz tomorrow if I don't have my math book. He repeated to himself over, and over again. But once he reached his locker, he knew that damn excuse wasn't good enough.

"Hey Jessica!" Jeremy called as he walked through the giant doors of the House of Java. Jessica was busy wiping a counter and looking very confused, but when she saw him, an instant smile appeared on her face.

"Jeremy! You're not working today!" She stopped with the whole counter business and leaned over to give him a quick kiss on the lips.

"No, I am not, but since my dad has a job, my work load gets to be cut down, a lot." He took her hands into his and grinned. Suddenly the door opened and Jessica dropped his hands. She flashed a bright smile to the customer but it seemed to freeze on her face. Will Simmons was strutting over to the counter. Jeremy frowned slighting and slid into line.

"Can I have a double latte, Jess?" He said grinning slightly. She prepared his order in a few minutes. As she slid his drink over to him she muttered the price. He leaned forward and whispered, in just a loud enough voice for Mr. Simmons to hear:

"You wanna go out tonight Jess? I missed you..."He gave a gentle kiss on the lips and pulled away. "I'll call you after your shit, sweetie." With that he walked away. He saw Jessica blush a fierce red, and he saw Will do the same. As he left HOJ, he felt a lot better about the whole day.

Will glanced angrily at Jeremy's back. He knew that cute little show was all for him, and he didn't like it. Of course, he had done the same thing many times to people who went after Melissa, but this was Jessica here. He turned back to her and smiled stifly.

"Jessica, can you take a break? I think we really need to talk." Will said in a hushed tone.

"Not right now, Will. I am really busy. Are you going to order? There is a person waiting!" Jessica snapped. Will winced at her harsh voice. What had happened to a chance they could be friends? He groaned. He guess he had lost that chance.

"No I- I don't need anything else. I guess this is the best I can do." With a distraught sigh, he wandered out of HOJ feeling completely let down.

Jessica Wakefield

Did I really have to be that harsh on Will? No, but he deserved it right? Sometimes those blue eyes drive me crazy! I know what he is trying to do, and there is NO way I would ever go out with him again! Jeremy knew that Will was trying to put "the moves" on me, and he did the right thing, right? Or do I want Will to ask me out? NO! I don't think so! I want Jeremy and Jeremy Aames alone!

Elizabeth Wakefield

Conner did something very, very odd today. While Maria and I were talking he just walked up, and then ran right past us! I don't know WHAT in the world his deal is, but I still want him to go out with me. I know, I know, I am pathetic, but can't a girl still dream?!

Will Simmons

She hates me. She really hates me! Shouldn't I be saying she loves me? Well, She doesn't. She wants me off the face of the earth! I knew that secret admirer thingy was dumb! I know now, that she is totally in love with Jeremy Aames! Aames! Why him? I want Jessica, and I don't care if she hates me! She will be mine!
