"Countdown to the millennium: 3 hours and counting!"
Jessica screamed along with her friends at Secca Lake
"Party time!" Lila yelled.
Jessica was shocked. She never knew Lila could scream
so loud.
"Hey, Li! Have you seen Elizabeth or Jeremy? I haven't
seen Liz since we arrived, and Jeremy was supposed to
be here an hour ago! That boy is never late-he never
has been." Jessica said with a note of apprehension in
her voice.
"I don't know, Jess." Lila grinned at her boyfriend,
Shawn Baker, who had just arrived and had slipped his
arm around her waist.
"Hi Shawn." Jessica smiled slightly.
"Hey." Shawn said. "Isn't that him right now?" he
pointed to a tall figure walking up to Jessica.
"Well, see you, Jess. I bet you'd want to be alone."
Lila winked at her and walked off with Shawn.
Jessica was glad Lila had finally found a sort-of
serious boyfriend. She needed one.
"Hi, Jess. Sorry I'm late." Jeremy leaned close to her
and smiled. "I got held up by Trent-he was begging me
to stay, even though I was just going to be here for
about 2 hours and his party will last for about 5 more
hours.
"It's okay. I have-well, at least {had} her here until
Shawn arrived." Jessica responded absent-mindedly
looking for Elizabeth.
"What's the matter? You seem distracted." Jeremy
stared at her in concern.
"What? Oh, I'm looking for Liz." She looked at the
group of people in the distance.
"Liz? I just ran into her. She's all the way in the
other side of the lake with Conner, having some-eh,
fun." He wrinkled his nose. "I'm getting jealous
thinking about them. I want fun too."
"You are so sweet." Jessica grinned in relief. "How
'bout we have some-how did you put it?"
"Fun." Jeremy whispered, leaning closer towards her
face. Jessica tilted her head upwards.
"Yeah. Fun." Jessica smiled as Jeremy captured her
lips in his.
Conner and Elizabeth were in a secluded area of Secca
Lake, making out.
Elizabeth heard a car roar up, but she didn't stop
kissing.
"Um, hi Liz, hi Conner." A familiar voice said.
Elizabeth pulled away from Conner, turning a fiery
red. "Oh, hi, Jeremy."
"Hey man." Conner grinned sheepishly, looking a bit
embarrassed.
"I think I interrupted something." Jeremy chuckled.
"Where's Jess?"
"Oh, there on the other side of the lake." Elizabeth
gestured far away.
"Okay. Thanks." He left quickly.
As soon as Jeremy was out of sight, Conner traced his
lips across Elizabeth's neck. "Now, where were we?" he
whispered passionately.
"I forgot. Refresh my memory." She laughed softly.
"I'd be happy to oblige…" he whispered, teasing at her
throat.
"Now I remember." Elizabeth murmured, taking his face
in her hands and pressing her lips against his.
"Now {this} is a happy new year." Conner said,
deepening the kiss.
"10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, ONE!" everyone yelled as
the clock struck midnight. "Happy New Year! New
Millennium!" Elizabeth and Jessica yelled.
Every couple and groups of friends gathered 'round and
watched the fireworks that lit up the night sky.
Will and Melissa were snuggled in each other's arms,
watching the fireworks display.
"Happy New Year, Liss." He told her.
"Same to you." She smiled.
Before leaning down to give her a long kiss, he
glanced around the happy couples that scattered the
place.
(Senior year was definitely a big time of change for
us-for the better. And everyone is finally happy and
in love. Liz and Conner, Jess and Jeremy-something I
have no regrets about, Lila and Shawn, Amy and Cory,
Winston Egbert and Maria Santelli, Todd and Alyssa,
Tia and Angel, Andy and Leslie, Maria Slater and Ken
Matthews…) he remembered thinking something like this
some time ago. But there was something different.
(And now including me. With Melissa. And I'm truly
happy.) he thought as his lips met Melissa's.
