Meet Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, 16 year old identical twins who live in
Sweet Valley.
Elizabeth is the responsible and hard working twin who has a crush on SVH's star basketballer, Todd Wilkins. Jessica is the irresponsible and wild twin who finds out about Liz's crush and decides to make Todd for her own.
When Jessica gets caught in a a bar with wildman Rick Andover, she pretends to be Elizabeth. Within minutes it gets around Sweet Valley that Liz was in a bar with Rick and Todd decides that he doesn't like her anymore.
Jessica uses this to her advantage until Liz finds out what happens. When she forces Jessica to tell Todd it really was her, Todd doesn't believe her and thinks she's covering for her twin. He asks her to the dance and Jessica says yes. Liz is heartbroken to think that Todd is still interested in Jessica and goes to the dance with Winston Egbert.
Jessica has a terrible time with Todd at the dance because he keeps staring at
Liz. Jessica knows she's losing him so tries one last ditch effort to keep them
apart by telling Liz that Todd tried to grope at her after the dance. Liz is so
angry at him that she vows to forget all about him.
Todd eventually finds out the truth when Rick forces himself into the Wakefield car and drives them to the bar. Todd sees Rick drive off with them and follows them. At the bar Todd and Rick fight and Todd wins.
Todd and Liz decide to get back at Jessica at the next school dance. Liz convinces Jessica to wear one of her outfits and everyone mistakes her for Liz all night. Liz pretends to be Jessica and spreads it around the dance that Liz is the writer of the Eyes and Ears gossip column of the school paper. It's tradtion at the school to dunk the writer in the pool when they're found out. Jessica is caught as Liz and is thrown head first into the pool. She's livid but deep down knows she deserved it.
