In the meantinme, Jess and Ken are still acting like the love-struck teenagers they are, and Liz is cracking - she almost confesses to Enid about their affair. Then Ken comes up with a plan to get the squad in better shape - visualization. Surprisingly, it works, and Heather's squad begins to get worried - until Heather tells them that there's a rule which states that SVH can only send one squad to regionals, and they've already been chosen. Jessica's squad are majorly PO'd when they find out, and try to get a scout to notice them so they can go instead. But it doesn't work, and they go home, depressed. But on the way, they hear the results of the latest football match - and SVH are losing, badly. They stop off at the high school, still in uniform, and perform their signature cheer during halftime - much to the surprise of Heather, whose furious. SVH end up winning, and Heather is upstaged.
Meanwhile, Liz confesses to Enid about Ken, who insists she tell Todd - the guilt is eating Liz alive. She decides to, but can't go through with it - Todd would be crushed. Finally, something gets sorted out in cheerleading; a cheer-off will be held, and the students will vote for their favourite team. But the unthinkable happens - a tie! (how convienient . . . ) The teams are urged to merge and go to regionals together, but Heather and Jessica refuse - there is absolutely no way they will work together. But the squads won't let their chance at going to nationals slip through their fingers, and they come up with a plan - they'll tell Jessica Heather had decided to step down from captain, and vice-versa. It works, and they go to regionals together - where the truth come out. SVH wins the regionals, and the *co-captains* are called out. Fortunately, they call a truce, and agree to go to the State competition together.
During the competition, Ken mistakes Elizabeth for Jessica, and tells her about a date that night - one which Liz agrees to go to. She tells Jessica Ken can't go on a date that night, and pretends she's to wiped out to go to the celebration party; she'll just stay home and read. She goes on her date with Ken, which is a dream come true until they kiss . . . and Ken realizes she's not Jessica. And Elizabeth realizes they have absolutely no chemistry anymore, so they finish it once and for all. They go to Todd's place to tell him about what happened, but it's to late; Jessica's already there, and she has told Todd what happened - and what happened that night. Todd and Jessica refuse to believe what they did that night was innocent, and break up with them on the spot.
