1984 Buzz of Delight Tour
During the Spring of 1984, the tour for the release of "Soundcastles" included dates in Florida, NYC, Atlanta, and Athens. No recordings have surfaced. This information came form the liner notes of To Understand: The Early Recordings of Matthew Sweet.
1987 Tour with the Golden Palominos
March 16,1987: Philadelphia @ The Chestnut Cabaret
a 20 song set featuring Matthew playing bass and singing on three songs:
blue fools
something becomes nothing
this above all
this is likely a soundboard tape, interesting to hear the live material from Inside
1989 Earth Tour
This tour commenced during the Spring of 1989, with Matthew opening for "Til Tuesday" and "Toni Childs".
Most shows featured Matthew on acoustic guitar, with Ric Menck on the snare drum.
There is an interesting interview available from Cleveland OH exclusive channel "Alternate Beat" that is most likely done during the touring schedule.
Tour with Lloyd Cole, Summer-Fall 1990
Matthew plays guitar in Lloyd's band.
September 1990 : Rock Steady TV
Only 47 minutes of this show aired, probably incomplete.
December 31, 1990 - CBGBs, New York
this information comes from Scott Byron:
The concept of the NYE show, if I recall correctly, was that Lloyd Cole took
the lead vocal on the Stones songs, and Matthew took the Beatles songs, and
they traded off. Cole would do one of his songs and a Stones song, then
Matthew would do one of his and a Beatles song. I have no idea which songs
Matthew did -- I knew very little of his work. But Girlfriend was still
many months away from release; I would assume he would play more stuff from
the earlier albums.
