'Jimmie J' - The Man With The Voice

Jimmie E. Jacobs (A.K.A. - Jimmie J), currently lead vocalist and guitarist for UGUYZ, started playing music at the age of ten. He began by taking guitar lessons in Hammond, Indiana; concentrating mainly on the blues. He played his music with the kids in his neighboorhood and at the age of thirteen he joined 'The Mellowtones'. He was the bass player for 'The Mellowtones' With this group he did amateur shows on the same ticket as The Jackson Five in Gary, Indiana. He stayed with The Mellowtones for about two years.

At the age of sixteen, he pulled together a group of guys to form another band called 'The Condors'. The Condors were managed by Jimmie's mother, Dorothy and his father, Willman. His sister, Meshell had a singing group that would come on as a special attraction for The Condors. The Condors played along with Albert King when he was touring Quincy, Illinois - Lyma, Ohio and Spring, Ohio.

One highlight of Jimmie's musical career was when he picked up Albert King's guitar and was told to put it down because he was playing it so well.
The Condors, also played with Denise Williams, Little Johnny Taylor and O.V. Wright at The Cadillac Ballroom in East Chicago, Indiana.

When the lead singer of The Condors left the band, Jimmie thought he would give the microphone a try, he's been singing ever since.

At the age of nineteen, Jimmie married and his performing caused conflicts in his marriage, so he gave up the music. He left the music alonefor about ten years. Then he hooked up with a group called, 'Struggle.' They played locally for about 2 years, once again he had problems and once again he left the band. He began to just sit in with local bands and do a couple numbers with them. In 1992 he joined a band called, 'Brothers of Soul', they played at Studio 87 in Gary, Indiana and he only stayed with them for about six months.

In 1993, a friend of Jimmie's mentioned that he knew a band that might like to have him play with them. Jimmie then became lead vocalist and guitarist of 'UGUYZ'. Jimmie enjoys playing and entertaining for people. He likes to get the crowd involved in his performances. He sis satisfied with the success of 'UGUYZ'. At this time in his life, he is just happy being out there playing for anyone who enjoys hearing the blues.

Over the years, many things have changed in his life. But nothing has changed with his music....35 years later he still concentrates on the blues.
