Les Magical MIZtory Tour (10 Years Of Pent Up Angst) - Sydney, Australia-April 9th 1998
The cast and crew of Australia's Les Miserables in their annual Easter Charity benefit.
Each of Cameron McIntosh's Australian shows participates at midnight after their regular
performances. These shows feature the cast members parodying songs and other shows, with a
slight tilt towards their own productions. Pro shot for video, these tapes were made for cast and
crew only. Very rare! Very enjoyable show.

A partial capture, containing all of Act I, then skipping to the wedding scene

Pro shot, recorded through the concerts big-screen cameras which relayed the action on stage to the
massive crowd, this is a brilliantly clear DVD with fantastic close-ups. Audio fed in from soundboard.
Humorous part at the end where the announcement is made to the crowd about getting home, just a real
juxtaposition of the previous brilliance One Day More!... For those heading to Chelmsford Railway
station or getting a coach, could you please leave by exit 3. Wonderfully engaging cast.

Lovely, clear picture with nice colours. However, the filming tends to be on the shaky side and there is
head obstruction at the bottom right of the screen, particularly during the first disc. Also, the filmer doesn't
always focus on the action - for example, the camera is zoomed in on Valjean for the whole of "One Day More",
which can be annoying. Chris is a good Valjean, but the highlight of this performance has got to be Christian.
He immediately became one of my favourite Javerts after watching this. He emotes wonderfully and his voice
is to die for. What's not to like The grade given is largely due to the filming - the picture quality deserves A/A-.

Most of the show, missing a few minutes at the beginning of each act. The first act is a bit shakier
than the second, hence the lowered grade; I moved closer to the stage for the second act.
Seriously no ushers as soon as the lights dimmed so only two brief coverups
(before I realized that they were just latecomers sans ushers). Minor heads in the way during the
second act for wider shots. This is the best performance I've seen live by far, Randal received a
good thirty seconds' worth of applause after Bring Him Home and Robert Hunt was just as
spot-on as Randal. Ali is a great Cosette, much better than Leslie IMO. Unashamedly focused
upon Robert Hunt when he is on the stage.

Amusing to see Alex gain significant weight between the two dates.
Act One complete, Act Two begins at Eponine’s Errand. Rampant ushers cause some cover-ups,
including one minute of IDaD (grrr) and 20 seconds of Stars. Alex is *much* improved from
February and truly draws you in. As a tenor, Drew has trouble reaching some of the lower notes
as Javert but his amazing acting more than makes up for that. Likewise, Mandy’s acting saves her from
a weaker voice and a tendency to sing too slowly. Ann as Mme Thenardier is hilarious, especially when
her accent unintentionally slips out.

Proshot dress rehearsal of the Northeast Regional Premiere --one of only a handful of professional regional theatres
in the country to produce this epic and powerful musical. This unique production created solely for NSMT's signature
theater-in-the-round, is helmed by director and choreographer Barry Ivan. He says that NSMT's intimate space plays
a key role in this production. "At North Shore Music Theatre the audience becomes part of the production and part
of the story telling. It's a very freeing experience for the actors and the audience will feel closer to the acting company
of Les Misérables at NSMT than they would in any other theater," said Ivan. Incidentally, Inkley portrayed Valjean on
Broadway during its initial run.
