PRO SHOT. English Subtitles.
Steve Barton (Krolock), Cornelia Zenz (Sarah), Aris Sas (Alfred), Gernot Kranner (Abronsius).
I've now upgraded to a lovely new 2 DVD set with much less gen loss and no compression
from being put on the computer. Gorgeous DVD and fabulous performances. In my opinion,
the best introduction to the show without seeing it live! This is one of the cases where
the original cast are hard to beat!

Tanz der Vampire - Vienna - October 4th 1997
Steve Barton (Graf von Krolock), Aris Sas (Alfred),
Gernot Kranner (Professor Abronsius aus Königsberg),
Cornelia Zenz (Sarah), James Sbano (Chagal),
Anne Welte (Rebecca), Eva Maria Marold (Magda).
Footage from only the left camera of the multiple-camera proshot.
Strong spotlight haloing and color washes, some generation loss,
but otherwise very watchable. Features some amazing closeups where
the multiple-camera version does not. An interesting alternate capture
of this legendary opening night.

Tanz der Vampire - Vienna - Nov 20th 1998
Steve Barton, Aris Sas, Cornelia Zenz, Gernot Kranner, Eva-Maria Marold, Sascha Krebs.
A great Tanz bootleg - gorgeous quality, close-ups galore (especially in the second act, shot from the front row)
and the only Vienna boot that deals well with the poor lighting in the Raimund Theater. And on top of all that,
the cast was in a rare energetic, manic mood, with Steve almost giggling maniacally at times, Cornelia practically
fainting on him in Totale Finsternis and Sascha Krebs as a much better Herbert than Nik. For the conoisseur,
some great shots of Mᴩ Kamar᳠in the ensemble.

Tanz Der Vampire - Vienna - January 17th 1999
Steve Barton (Krolock), Cornelia Zenz (Sarah), Alex Melcher (Alfred)
HIGHLIGHTS ONLY (about 1 hour and 30 minutes).
Picture quality varies quite a bit, and the camera is shaky.
There are some problems with the sound in the beginning.
During filler scenes, the visual is black for about 10 seconds.
Taper clearly focused on Barton and Melcher.
Some nice close-ups and strong audio

I'm a little bit in love with this video. It's absolutely gorgeous - heavenly to watch!
Filmed from the very front of the stalls by someone who evidently knows the show very well
and has a very steady hand. It has some of the most sublime close-ups I've ever seen in a boot -
you can literally see the pores of the actors skins! Very clear picture but unfortunately suffers
from slight gen loss - I would guess it's a very early copy but has been put onto a bad tape,
as the picture is clear with absolute minimal gen distortion, but there are lines running along
the top and bottom of the screen. A shame, because although still wonderful, I suspect it
could be given an A* rating if not for the bad transfer. Bernd is a fantastic Alfred - and not
just in that he looks exactly as I picture the part! Michaela is one of my faves and whilst
Nicholas isn't a favourite, he's still very good. A very predatory, sarcastic Krolock. Video
misses the final few verses of 'Der Tanz der Vampire'.

Steve's Final Performance
Steve Barton (Krolock), Bettina Oswald (Sarah), Aris Sas (Alfred),
Gernot Kranner (Prof. Abronsius), Mat頋amar᳠(Herbert).
Probably the best quality picture of Tanz with Steve Barton of all 3 bootlegs, with occasional obstruction by a railing.
The sound is marred by an overenthusiastic audience (lots of screaming for Steve) and chatter. Filmer is clearly a big
fan of Steve and gets in lots of close-ups, which are nice, but obscure the action elsewhere on the stage. Mat頩s
hilarious and awesome. A must-have for Steve and Mat頦ans, but should not be your introduction to the musical.

Tanz der Vampire - Stuttgart, Germany - April 16th 2000
Kevin Tarte (Krolock), Barbara Köhler (Sarah),
Aris Sas (Alfred), Thomas Mülner (Herbert)
Video shows its age a bit, but still quite a nice bootleg, and a really good
performance from the cast and is a much better indicator of Kevin’s talent
than the Hamburg proshot. Filmed from the balcony with some nice zooms
and decent sound, the main issue is the continual background chatter
throughout the majority of the show. (The cast appears to be the main cast
but I’m not 100% certain, if anyone is able to enlighten me and/or tell me
who the soloists (both singers and dancers) are, I’d be very grateful!)
This video has been listed as both 12-04-2000 and 16-04-2000;
however, there is also another video that is listed as 12- 04-2000
with Charles Fornara and Fritz Schmid These pair together here
are the same show, but i burned them both so meh.

Some good close-ups but some obstruction from a bar crossing
the screen and generation loss. Ian makes a very charismatic
Krolock and sounds fantastic.

Unfortunately missing about an hour of the show

Beautiful. Oh my word, is this video ever beautiful. Crystal clear, nice and steady,
only a touch of spotlight washout once in a great while. Clear with stunning detail.
At times, this easily passes for a proshot.

If it’s even possible, it’s even better quality than the same incredible quality as the above
two Oberhausen DVDs but with the third (and almost main) cast. Suffers from the same
washout as the above two and a couple of occasional obstructions, this time on the left,
not the right as the filmer is sitting on the opposite side of the theatre but any obstructions
are barely noticable and are very well shot around. There is a moment of some screaming
audience members just after Jan first appears at the end of Act 1 that briefly disrupts things,
but he deals with it brilliantly well. There is also a squeal from a group of young audience
members as the vampires go through the audience at the end of Ewigkeit.
My personal favourite of all of the three Oberhausen DVDs – the whole cast are just perfect.

Shot around and between heads, often effectively, sometimes not.
What is captured is beautiful, but obstructions recur occasionally,
and are frustrating, and few shots lack the presence of heads.
What is captured is A+ material.
