~PASSAGE
OF TIME~
When does it
get better, the heart stop breaking?
When do the
tears quit falling, my hands quit shaking?
When will
the smile on my face begin to feel real?
What must
my heart do, to make itself heal?
Questions of
a bereaved parent’s heart
As they search
so hard for a place to start
To find meaning
again, out of the ashes at their feet
Will we ever
again feel whole and complete?
Time will help
you recover they say, I wonder if it will?
Since August
30, 1999, my life has stood still
Time has softened
the edges, dulled the stabbing pain
But time will
never give me back my child again.
Time will not
give me back the lost years
Nor fill the
void in my heart
It won’t give
me back my legacy to the world
Or all the
dreams that were torn apart.
Time will take
me further from my child
And bring
with it newfound fears
Will people
forget how special he is?
As the months
turn into years?
So I question
this thing called time
Does it really
do what they claim?
Or is it just
something people say
Yet everything
will remain the same?
The passage
of time will show me
How to live
a life without my son
It will never
touch the grief in my heart
For that can
never be undone.
