Picking
up the pieces of shattered dreams
Life
now fractured, lying in a heap
Of
broken hearts and promises
With
only your memory to keep.
You
were my essence, the song of my soul
Life
as your mother, my life’s role.
Now
as I sift through the fragments of my life
I
question why all the struggles and strife.
To
have watched you come so close
To
all that you ever dreamed
Just
to watch it shatter
Like
ice on a winter stream
I
cry for all that you were yet to be
All
things you still yearned to see
Feeling
the call of distant shores
Your
baby’s finger wrapped in yours.
I
draw solace in the thought
That
these dreams of yours came true
As
you dance with the angels
Visions
of rapture in full view.
Dance
with the angels my sweet
May
your soul fly free
As
I pick up the pieces of shattered dreams
For
they were never meant to be.

At
the time of Cory’s passing, he was 2 months from seeing so many of his
dreams come true. He was moving into his new home, and looking forward
to the birth of his son. It seemed like some cosmic joke, to have seen
him come so close to all that he had strived for, and then watch it
all
shatter. In my heart, I saw years of work, struggle, dreams, and
goals, vanish in the blink of an eye. My heart grieves for the loss
of my son’s dreams, as I came to realize that his dreams were my dreams
too. Now when the anger of the injustice of his passing becomes to
much to bear, I try envisioning him in all of his radiant glory, and for
a time, I too, see him dance with the angels.
