* On an annual basis 1 acre of hemp will produce as much fiber as 2 to 3 acres of cotton. Hemp is stronger, last twice as long and will not mildew.
* Cotton requires large quantities of pesticides & herbicides ( 50% of the world’s pesticides/herbicides are used on cotton. Hemp requires only small amounts of fertilizer.
* 1 acre of hemp will produce as much paper as 2 to 4 acres of trees. It takes years for trees to grow until they can be harvested for paper/wood. Hemp is ready after 120 days of being planted.
* Hemp paper will last hundreds of years, can be recycled many more times than paper from trees. Hemp is the world’s most promising source of tree free paper.
* Hemp can be used to produce fiberboard that is stronger & lighter than wood, and is fire retardant.
* Mercedes Benz of Germany has recently begun manufacturing car bodies and dashboards made from strong plastics made from hemp.
* Hemp seeds contain a protein that is more nutritious and more economical to produce than soybean protein. Hemp seeds are not intoxicating. Hemp seed protein can be used to produce any product made from soybean.
* Hemp seed can also be ground into a nutritious flour that can be used to produce baked goods.
* Hemp seed oil can be used to produce non-toxic diesel fuel, paint, varnish, detergent, ink, and lubricating oil.
* From 1776-1937 hemp was a major American crop and textiles made from hemp were common. Pres. George Washington & Thomas Jefferson grew hemp, used products made from hemp and praised hemp in some of their writings. Ben Franklin owned a mill that produced hemp paper.
* The US Government re-legalized hemp cultivation during WWII so American farmers could grow it for the war effort. 350,000 acres of hemp was cultivated.
