Ebola is an extremely contagious virus and all research done with it is at Biosafety Level 4 (BSL4)Laboratories. This is the highest possible level and only the most dangerous viruses are kept in these labs. Qualified personnel are the only people permitted to build, work and enter these labs. Anyone dealing with the virus is required to wear a biohazard suit. If it is suspected that someone has become contaminated with the virus, they are placed in quarantine that is run under strict guidelines. As well, after the Ebola Reston outbreak in Texas in 1989, guidelines for monekys being imported into the United States has become more rigorous.
