Broken Window

She stands in the darkness
Looks out at you
Smiles in the shadows
This is her cue

Grabbing her slingshot
And winding the nuse
She runs to the corner
But it's no use

Someone has beat her
The window already broke
Perfect portal glass
Gone in one stroke

Beside her a cat whines
Before her empty pane
Behind her a voice
Crying out in pain

Turning to the speaker
She tries not to smile
For the culprit of the window
Has not been gone awhile

He has glass in his arm
And she can clearly see
That it was an accident
And this man was the key

"I fell into the glass"
He said in a low voice
"I own the store"
Clearly there was no choice

She looked at the window
She would not stay
She scowled at the man
And then ran away
