Illinois 26 is a significant north-south route that runs north-south through north-central Illinois. It enters Illinois at the Wisconsin border and runs south through Freeport, then follows the I-180 corridor, then running along the east side of the Illinois to end on the outskirts of the Peoria area.
Intersections from north to south:
IL26 begins at the Wisconsin border. In Wisconsin, IL26 becomes WI Route 69.
US20 near Freeport
BR20 at Freeport
IL75 at its western end in downtown Freeport
IL72 joins IL26 south
IL72 leaves IL26 to the east at Forreston
IL64 joins IL26 south for a short distance
IL64 breaks off to head east
US52 joins IL26 south from the west near Polo
IL2 joins the 2 routes south from the west at Dixon
IL2 leaves east in downtown Dixon
US52 leaves to go southeast at Dixon
IL92 at Ohio
I-80 just outside of Princeton
US34 joins from the east in Princeton
IL26 and US34 split up as they intersect US6 in downtown Princeton; US34 follows US6 west as IL26 follows US6 east
IL26 leaves US6 to head south again
IL26 joins IL29 south near Bureau
IL26 leaves IL29
IL26 joins I-180 east (there is no access to or from the north on I-180)
IL26 leaves south at the southern endpoint of I-180 and the western endpoint of IL71 (I-180 becomes Il71 at this point)
IL26 joins IL18 west for a short while
IL26 heads its own way again, across the river from Henry
IL17 at Lacon
IL26 ends at IL116 approaching the Peoria area.
It passes through these towns: Orangeville, Cedarville, Freeport, Forreston, Polo, Woosung, Dixon, Ohio, Princeton, Bureau, Hennepin, Lacon, Spring Bay, Bayview Gardens.
