What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is the art and science of the use of essential oils, which because of the power of our sense of smell, affect us on physical, emotional and aesthetic levels.
What are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are extractions from aromatic plants, herbs, seeds, fruits, resins, woods, roots, leaves, berries, and flowers, and are known as the "life-force" or "living essence" of raw aromatic plant material.
Consider this…to give you an idea of just how much raw plant material it requires to produce essential oil, you need 1 Ton of Rose petals to yield 1 pound of Rose Essential Oil. And you need 150 pounds of Lavender to yield 1 pound of Lavender Essential Oil. Wow!
How Do You Use Essential Oils?
Essential oils enter your body both through inhalation and absorption through the skin and are not to be ingested. They are most effective when used in the bath or massage treatment. Their molecular structure is much smaller than that of even the carrier oils, so they are directly absorbed into the skin and work as adaptagens from there within the body.
