311 and 311 Hive News. Limited Edition merchandise now being offered on 311's official website. (See below for color merchandise brochure status.) The following are excerpts from a Capricorn Records News Release - January 23, 1998 - "...311 is continuing a series of international WARPED Tour concert dates despite the temporary loss of drummer Chad Sexton, who fractured his left wrist January 17 during a tour stop in Sydney, Australia. The 27-year old percussionist was injured while playing a casual game of American-style football as Sexton and his bandmates relaxed prior to an evening performance in Sydney's Keirly Park. Sexton was immediately flown to Los Angeles to see a specialist for treatment. Upon examination, the doctor reported no complications, and Sexton's prognosis is excellent: following 3 1/2 weeks in a cast, he is expected to make a full recovery..." Earlier, on Jan 19th, Nick Hexum wrote from Australia during the Warped Tour: "Bad news...Chad messed up his wrist going down to catch a football pass. It is either broken or sprained. They can't tell because the bones are in the middle of his wrist. He's wearing a cast. Can't play drums. He will be fine after a month. He's heading home now. Once home they will remove the cast and do a bone scan. We wish him a speedy recovery. Playing without him sucks. Josh Freeze of the Vandals is filling in most of the set with Yeti playing a few songs. It is very weird to play 400 shows with someone then have someone else try to do it. Josh is amazing, though. Much thanks to him..." 311 will complete their participation on the Warped Tour (New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and Hawaii) at the end of this month. Following their return, 311 plans on taking an extended fun and working vacation.
Color merchandise brochure update status 1/30. The brochure is being coordinated with Adam Raspler, 311's manager. Unfortunately, Adam has been on the Warped Tour with 311 and sending faxes to him in Australia, Japan, and Hawaii has slowed down the process. Once final OK is given by Adam and 311, over 30,000 brochures will be printed and mailed out. Keep the faith! As we mentioned earlier, the new color brochure will be in a "newsletter format" containing merchandise info, pictures, letters to the band, news, and excerpts from the Web. In future issues, plans are to include tour dates, a comic strip by Yeti, and anything you would enjoy contributing.
