The United Pentecostal Church of New Castle has a rich history. Sister Nina Neal, a respected Christian and historian, has compiled an excellent book entitled Keepers of the Flame: A History of the Oneness Pentecostals of New Castle, Indiana. Her work intimates the struggle of early pioneers of the faith to forge a Jesus Name Church in the city of New Castle. What began with tent revivals and modest meetings under trees grew into a mighty Pentecostal revival!
The story of the United Pentecostal Church International in New Castle begins with the Pentecostal Tabernacle that was located on G Avenue. Sister Neal's book tells of the earliest involvement of this assembly in the newly-formed UPCI. Bro. McElhaney attended
the merger meetings of the Pentecostal Church Incorporated and the Pentecostal Assemblies of Jesus Christ that formed the United Pentecostal Church. According to Sister Neal, the G Avenue church became known by the new name United Pentecostal Church at that time (14).
(G Avenue Saints, 1950s)Following pastors drew the assembly into other Oneness affiliations, and there was a time that the UPC had no churches in New Castle.
(Bro. and Sis. Christine)
Bro. and Sis. Israel Christine came to New Castle in 1969 with a burden. They began meetings in a rented storefront at 208 North 9th Street (41).
This became the initial home of the United Pentecostal Church of New Castle.
(Apostolic Faith Assembly, 208 N. 9th St.)
In 1978, the Church relocated to its present facility, located at 2208 Broad Street (47).
The Church continues to worship in this sanctuary that has been completely renovated since Bro. Ronald Perry has assumed pastorate of the assembly.
