My Favorite SNL Scetches(1997-98 season)
"You know how you go to your favorite bar and your local bartender isn't there? You ask "Where's Jeff?" Jeff no longer works here I'm Steve, and you're thinking "Who's this idiot? I like Jeff." But you still want your drink. And even though Steve doesn't mix your drink the same way you're used to, like Jeff, you still like the bar... you don't have to go to a different bar. And even Steve might feel kind of bad because Jeff trained him. Jeff showed how to use the cash register, where the tonic was on the soda gun, who tips and who doesn't.
- Well..... I'm Steve..... what can I get ya?"
Right now are you asking yourself, "What is that song?! I know I've heard it somewhere before...but where?" The song on this page is called "What Is Love" and is performed by Haddaway. It's the song that you always see the Roxbury Guys listening to.
Amatuer SNL performances at Adams Central High School...
At my school, there are a few true SNL fans. The first two that come to my mind are Chelsi and Jonathon(whose last names are to remain annonymous for security reasons.)
December '97...My 1st semester drama class had to perform a Christmas skit for the entire school. We got to choose what we wanted to preform and who got what parts, etc. Chelsi and Becca took charge. They came up with the idea of doing an original Saturday Night Live performance. The entire class loved the idea and for the next 2 days we watched SNL during class for ideas on what to perform. We ended up doing a choir scene with the Roxbury Guys (Shawn and Keith who did a great job if I do say so myself), Mary Catherine Gallager (Becca...VERY convincing), The National Public Radio women from Delicious dish (Chelsi and Kristy...who were just a little TOO good at the part), the Spartan Cheerleaders (Stephanie and Studee...too awesome), and a bunch of other people who just had there own little roles (I was in there somewhere.) Originally, we were going to have a Goat Boy, but it didn't work out. Jonathon wasn't in drama that semester, but he did do a SNL performance of his own. Alone in front of the entire school, he sat with his guitar on a stool in front of a microphone and performed Adam Sandlar's Hannakah song.
April '98...Prom '98. A time of music, dancing, fun, friends, memories, and most importantly, Saturday Night Live. At our afterprom, a talant show was organized. 1st place $100; 2nd place $75; 3rd place $50; 4th place $25; and all participants were guarenteed $10. Anyway...Chelsi came to me with the idea of doing another original scketch...there were only 3 groups signed up for the show so far anyway so we were guarenteed something halfway decent. Chelsi (Mary Catherine), Chad and Stephanie (Spartan Cheerleaders), Keith (an original character), Jodi and me(the Delicious Dish people) organized and performed a scene taking place at Arnolds, a local 50's and 60's restaurant. There was a 50's and 60's theme at afterprom so we were able to fit that into the whole sketch...the cheerleaders wore outfits that looked like they were stolen from Grease, and took place at the "Grand Opening of Arnolds." I think we did a pretty good job for only practicing it the whole way through once and putting it all together in less than a half an hour on the same day as prom.
I know what you're thinking...."What place did you get?" No? You weren't? ok, then. But out of six groups, we placed 3rd. We were beat by 1st place Jonathon and Josh(Jon performed Adam Sandler's "Lunchlady Land" while Josh dressed in drag and danced around our head lunchlady who was chaperoning) and 2nd place Jason (who did a skit of one our teachers from school.) We split the $50 six ways so we didn't end up with a lot for each of us, but it was as they say...."Good Times, yeah, it was really fun."
David Spade bio You gotta love Chris Farley's side kick. He's on his own now, and he's doing great with his NBC sitcom.
