Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. - a brief look

THE GREATEST FRATERNITY!!!!

THE OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY, INC.

On November 17, 1911, our Founders: 3 Undergraduate University Students and a Professor (Advisor), founded this Great Fraternity. Our Founders: Oscar J. Cooper, Frank Coleman, Edgar A. Love & Ernest E. Just founded a Fraternity that was to be membered by men of similar ideas of fellowship, binding themselves together in order to form a more perfect union among college men.
These Men (and future members) would uphold and promote the principles of MANHOOD, SCHOLARSHIP, PERSEVERANCE, and UPLIFT, as well as, further brotherly love and fraternal spirit within the organization. There was also the daunting task of protecting the sanctity of the home and the chastity of women, as well as being one's Brothers' Keeper and Friend for life. Ours is the only Fraternity founded on the basis of Friendship, thus our motto:

FRIENDSHIP IS ESSENTIAL TO THE SOUL

When we meet our Brothers - greeting is a celebration of the souls. It's good to have Friends!!!

We believe greatly in Service, thus our numerous mandated Community-related Programs; SERVICE is our watchword.

The purpose of our Fraternity is to bring about a union of college men of similar high ideals of scholarship and manhood in order:

  • To stimulate the attainment of ideals and ambitions of its members;
  • To disseminate and inculcate those ideals among those with whom its members come in contact;
  • To cooperate with the schools where its Chapters may be located in fostering these ideals;
  • To occupy a progressive, helpful and constructive place in the civic and political life of the community and of the nation;
  • To prepare its members for greater usefulness in the causes of humanity, freedom and dignity of the individual; and
  • To aid down-trodden humanity in its efforts to achieve higher social, economic and intellectual status.
