Grandpa's Hands

When I was a boy
I wanted to ride
Like all of my friends could
They would ride
And I would push
And they all understood

But I wasn't
The only one
Who wanted it so much
Grandpa watched
As I pushed that bike
He wanted me rid of my crutch

He told me its time
To make a change
You need to learn how to ride
I'll help you learn
Just trust me
I promise you'll be alright

He grabbed the bars
The back of my seat
And told me to pedal real hard
Just keep going
I got you right here
Don't lean over too far

I think I've got it
Grandpa let go
Let me try it alone
He asked are you sure
I said oh yes
I turned around he was gone

As soon as I turned
I hit the ground
"Why did you let go of me?"
"You said you could do it all alone."
"I just wanted to see."

Grandpa's hands
They're always there
Just to hold me up
It's when I lean over too far
That his grip's not enough

But he's there
To pick me up
Whenever I fall down
Get back in his hands
And stay away
As far as I can from the ground
