In the Moment

I love to sit as you pretend to sleep

Yet feel your eye-lashes

Bat against my cheek.

I’m left to freeze within the moment

To savor each instant

Without a comment.

For if this were a movie,

I’d fast-forward to the end.

Then rewind back

And slo-mo through again.

What is it about a friend like you,

Which makes moments like these

Stick in my head as glue?

I spend each moment with you as I may

And wonder why I never saw

That, which I do today.

I love the moments you catch me by surprise,

Asking those questions

Only you could devise.

For in these moments, I catch a glimpse

Of a searching heart

Trying to make sense.

In a moment, with my cheek to yours

It seemed we were left

The only two on the floor.

In my mind, a memory is etched

Of a dance with you

I could never forget.

Many have asked what is of you and I.

We have this sort of link

With a unique sort of tie.

Its more than I could write in a poem or sonnet.

I just had to be there…

In the moment.
